Describe the bug
Franz 5.0.1 is using an abnormal amount of CPU, eating all my battery when not plugged in. As in, over 1% per minute.
To Reproduce
Just start franz and let it load my chats. I've got 3 slacks, one messenger, one whatsapp, one discord enabled.
Expected behavior
If I'm not using Franz, the Franz helpers processes should be almost idle
Screenshots

The second screenshot was actually caught when the number was not that high. It often went above 90 on instance energy consumption. Still, over 30 it's high.
Desktop (please complete the following information):
Mac OS 10.14.4, Franz 5.0.1
Let me know if I can provide any additional details.
Edit: I've pinned this down to being in the discord service. Disabling it gets CPU usage back to normal. Enabling it immediately spikes CPU usage.
I can report the same behavior on Windows 10 Home, version 1809, build 17763.379.
In my case sometimes it uses only GPU rather than CPU.
Steps to reproduce:

Same Here. Discord seems to be the problem for mee too.

Maybe a duplicate of https://github.com/meetfranz/franz/issues/267
Why is it Discord specifically doing this? Are you in hundreds of Discord Servers/Guilds or just a couple? Are you in any massive servers with thousands of people? Let's add some context here!
I see the same issue and do not use Discord, so I don't think Discord specifically is the cause of the problem here.
I've same problem over here (Manjaro and Franz 5.2.0). I've remove Discord and the CPU usage is normal (more or less) finally. Franz consumes a lot of resources really
Same here, Discord was causing my CPU to get high usage. I am on the latest version (5.4.0beta3) and it looks that this problem is still here.
Same here in Mac, franz helper (GPU) was using a lot of CPU, deactivating Discord fixed the problem
I don't use Discord on my job computer, and I have the same problem: Franz consumes 100% of cpu.
I'm using it at Windows 10 pro, in a Intel i7 notebook.
I use RiskFied, Rocket, Messenger, Skype, Gmail (3x), Whatsapp, Telegram, Trello, Steam and Linkedin plugins.
I don't use Discord, but for me, it was deactivating Trello that helped!
In Mac os Catalina. Same. It literally kills my battery in 30 minuts.
From my side I can confirm the same issue.
No Discord.
1x Skype, 1x Slack.
Latest Franz and latest Catalina as of today.
I have the same issue - I only use WhatsApp, Telegram and Slack in Franz. After some minutes of using my fan started working because high Franz GPU usage.
Had the same problem. Try disabling your services one by one while having your favourite CPU monitor open. Each service is a separate process so you will notice when the high consumers are disabled.
For me the problematic ones (> 10% CPU when idle) were: Discord, Telegram and LinkedIn.
Thanks @joroKr21, I disabled Discord and Skype and it seems that the problem was solved.
Using Franz 5.4.1.1703 on Catalina 10.15.1.
the CPU usage is a global electron issue...unfortunately
Wow it get's higher and higher - for me the software is not usable anymore. I need to shutdown and start it, when I need it. And I only have WhatsApp, Telegram and Slack inside.
@bricemaurin not in the mentioned levels. I mean, Visual Studio Code is an Electron app and does not present high CPU usage. I guess that the mentioned problem is somehow related to Franz itself or to the Web applications we use together.
@47k try to activate the services one by one, in my case Discord was causing the issue. Since I deactivated the Service, Franz is running pretty stable without any CPU / Temperature issue.
Right now, I am running Whatsapp, Telegram and 3 Slack instances over Franz 5.4.1.1703
For me it's WhatsApp. I think it could be combined with links/pictures. Its the integrated Chrome engine with hardware acceleration which kicks the GPU/CPU high. If it's not fixed in the next weeks, I need to change to another software. Frannz without WA have no sense for me.
Hmm, does it go down if you disable GPU acceleration (you can do that in the settings).
Ok ill try - but at the moment I can verify that Frannz is really slow without hardware acceleration. The high CPU/GPU/fan and temperature is not all the time. It depends.. sometimes its 30 minutes, sometimes 10 or long time nothing. Maybe a handle or something which is too long open
I can report the same issue with Whatsapp; maybe connected to the new Whatsapp Update?
Franz usually takes up 50% of my CPU, i am forced to disable it on startup or i literally have to wait 15 minutes before i can start working while usually it takes 15 seconds. I don't use Whatsapp/discord and only have about 6 apps, but its getting outrageous.
For me - Discord service was the reason of high CPU usage. Once I removed discord from active services (even I was not logged in my discord account) the CPU (Franz Helper GPU renderer) went down from 70% to 1%.
Didnt help alot for me

I think disabling the GPU acceleration worked for me. Since I disabled it, the CPU is normal.
Same here on Fedora 31: disabling the GPU acceleration seems to work for me.
Services: Skype && WhatsApp
