To continue the discussion, an icon for Google Scholar and Mendeley would be great. Carl's suggestion for Mendeley is a good one. GS's favicon would be a good way to go, I think.

For anyone needing an interim fix for these icons, I've uploaded a font here:
https://github.com/dtnedry/academicons
It contains: google-scholar, researchgate, and mendeley, along with the -square varieties sharing the same metrics as those in Font Awesome. It blends well with Font Awesome 4.3 as far as I can tell from my testing.

Already using "google-scholar-square" in my site: http://jponttuset.github.io.
The only possible improvement to perfection ;) I see to it is to make the Google scholar icon in the square a little bigger... not very readable when at small size.

You're welcome. The inset icons could be made larger, but they are rather limited by the pixel grid implemented by Font Awesome, and by the inherent shape and complexity of the logo itself. Making the inset icon larger would make it go off the grid, so to speak, and it wouldn't look consistent alongside the other square icons (even though the dimensions of the overall square would be identical). I agree that the icons can look a bit messy at very small sizes, but I don't think the square icons were intended for use below fa-2x, at least on @1x displays.

+1 on all of these. Thanks to jpswalsh for your work on making these available. What would the possibility be of including instructions on how to integrate these with Wordpress? I have a menu with social icons. All it requires is typing the name of the service and the url, then the words are transformed into the corresponding icon. Would it be somehow possible to integrate academicons with what's already in place, or do we have to get into the site's code to insert these next to what's generated?

Hi, all. We just added mendeley into Font Awesome version 5.6. Check it out - https://fontawesome.com/icons/mendeley.
Unfortunately, it seems like Google doesn't have a symbol they use consistently that we can translate into a google-scholar icon. The old Google "g" with the cap isn't official and their material illustrations can't be simplified down to 1 color while maintaining their look/brand.

Academicons works well for me.
- Just download the zip file, unzip, and put it somewhere in your site folder.
- Link to the
.cssfile by putting this linke
<link rel="stylesheet" href="/path/to/folder/css/academicons.min.css"/>
in the file that you want to use the icons
- Use the icons the same way as you would using Font Awesome by replacing

they use for many years the favicon https://scholar.google.ch/favicon-png.ico which shows on every tab and therefore is the most recognizable one.

In this tutorial they explain how to obtain the SVG path data for any SVG icon. Unfortunately, it only explains the procedure for Adobe Illustrator. It might be useful as a starting point. Maybe some other (open source) software has similar capabilities...?

As a workaround I'm currently using the \extrainfo command:
\extrainfo{\href{https://scholar.google.co.uk/citations?user=...YourUser...}{\includegraphics[width=0.25cm]{logo_google_scholar} My Name}}
Not elegant, but it looks ok.
