Font-awesome: Icon not display in some IE 11 with font awesome 4.7

Created on 16 Dec 2016  路  4Comments  路  Source: FortAwesome/Font-Awesome

I have a problem that some people IE 11 cannot see the icons properly. Even we using the same version of IE 11 build, but the icons disappear on some people's browser sometime.

The only different I noticed in the Network loading in IE 11 Developer Tools, the browser that works would only load the .eot file, but the ones didn't work would try to load .eot + .woff + .tff.

Understood. But, is there any workaround that keeps Cache-control header and the no-cache option in Pragma header and still use fontawesome? Most sites must keep Cache-control and the no-cache option for security reasons on https. For these sites, what can they do?

Check the following:

  • You properly configured server's MIME types (Ref: #5559);
  • You properly configured Cross-origin Resource Sharing (CORS);
  • For Internet Explorer: you don't serve files with no-store option in Cache-control header (Ref: #6454);
  • For Internet Explorer and HTTPS: you don't serve files with no-cache option in Pragma header.

Use a CDN?

If you have IE security settings set to high as the security level, web fonts are not downloaded by default. Also if in a large corporate environment, if the overall policy value for _Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer -> Internet Control Panel -> Security Page -> Internet Zone -> 'Allow font downloads'_ is 'Enabled' with a value of 'Disable' then web fonts will not download either.

I can easily reproduce this if I set my IE11 internet security level to high.
