Font-awesome: Icon Request: Mathematical icons

Created on 21 May 2013 · 156Comments · Source: FortAwesome/Font-Awesome

This is useful again when we specify a library version dependancy i.e <= .NET 4, or >= MVC3.

Also if there are any mathematical equations that need to be represented on a page using a proper less than equal to sign would look much better than using <=.

 • icon-divide
 • icon-less-than
 • icon-greater-than
 • icon-less-than-equal
 • icon-greater-than-equal
 • icon-equal

+1 for equal sign at least

All 156 comments

agree, best as normal, -sign and -sign-alt like plus and minus

I couldn't actually believe (and still can't) that there is no divide option.

Issue was opened May 21, 2013, and _still_ no fa-equals or fa-divide....?

@princeofnaxos these are not issues, these are requests

If you need these icons, please consider a custom build of font awesome. You can use fontello.com or icomoon.io

Moreover, since those symbols are part of the unicode set in most fonts, you could also consider a solution like the following one: http://jsfiddle.net/tagliala/77re29ct/

Right, issue or request..... Point is that there are many who request
this, so I would consider doing it.

Thing against your suggested solution is that, when using an icon picker
(such as bootstrap-iconpicker), the icons are not there. Of course, one
could edit font-awesome.css and add them, but that is not a very elegant
solution. When updating, one would have to add them again.

Therefor I _suggest_ to add the requested icons and create a
'mathematical' set of icons.

With best regards,

@princeofnaxos I can guarantee that Dave takes in consideration the most popular requests before each minor or major release of fontawesome.

At the moment there are many other request more popular (and older) than this one: https://github.com/FortAwesome/Font-Awesome/issues?q=is%3Aissue+sort%3Acomments-desc+

As you can see, part of the above requests was addressed in 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2.

If you need these icons and you need them now, you should really consider a fork, a custom build or a little bit of extra CSS

Hope it helps

Equal sign would be good. But Division sign, Greater-Than-or-Equal-To, and Less-Than-or-Equal-To would be even better!

The chevron-left and chevron-right can already be used for Greater-Than and Less-Than symbols. Simply adding a line underneath them would be really useful.

@tagliala It's been a couple years since you posted that fiddle, but it would be better to use \f7 for the content to get the division symbol: http://jsfiddle.net/77re29ct/425/

I can see a lot of uses outside of pure maths. For exemple, for "same", "similar" or "synonym". It could even be used as "parallel" if you rotate it.

Hey, not sure if it will include math symbols, but I am guessing it will... You all need to check out and support the kickstarter for FontAwesome 5. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/232193852/font-awesome-5

Guys, it's painful to watch it, bunch of people asking for a single icon for year. It's 30 min of work after all.

Let's say they're licensed under Good Boy License. If you're enterprise and your lawyers hate broad terms, let's double-license it under MIT.

Here are icons:
divide icon, less than icon, greater than icon, less than equal icon, greater than equal icon, and equal icon.
More math icons here.

I'm beginning a campaign, giving away the top requests for FA icons for free, open source. You can incorporate them in a number of ways: generating another icon font, svg set, or (my preference) compiling all FA and third party icons into a single file.

Previous ones were moderator, discord, coins, Google Play, thin Close, walking man, t-shirt, Xbox, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo, PlayStation, Facebook messenger and Line icons.

Please let me know if you want me keep going these icon requests, or compile some upgrade file, or how should we do it?

Why is it taking so long, need maths signs!

would be awesome to get this "="

Mathematical characters have in character maps, don't need icon.
Exemple: ÷
HTML Entity (Named) | ÷
http://graphemica.com/%C3%B7

You can see others here: http://graphemica.com/categories/math-symbol

@rodrigojob When using the HTML entities, there is likely to be a problem with alignment with other FA icons. Therefor, I think it'd be better to have fa-plus, fa-divide, etc.

We need an equals sign.

👍

Firstly, thanks for all the free icons available for usage.

Secondly, FontAwesome 5 is out and I still can't find the divide icon? Any chance this is in the pipeline?

I needed divide and multiply icons. "solved" it with ÷ (÷) and × (×)
it was ugly and shameful. But it worked.

+1 for all Arithmetic/Algebraic signs
Main reason is to allow for simplicity and unification of methods as I use FA for nearly all icons so they match.

+1 for fa-equals

We're working hard on new icons, and these are in the queue!

+1

Any chance of adding the percentage sign (%) too to the list?

@Script47 Yup! Just designed it. Hoping to get these into our next release.
