I know usb key, hard drive...
CD are used to scare birds in the garden...
What's a floppy ? Do you really "save" things on such a media ?
Microsoft is using a floppy icon for saving in the recently released 2013 edition of Office and elsewhere. Other companies follow.
I don't see an issue here. A floppy icon is still a universally recognizable metaphor present in software used by hundreds of millions of people every day.
Your answer is not an argument.

agree: no bug ;) more a discussion that already takes place elsewhere in the web.
instead of _complaining_ about that icon - you have an alternative suggestion that is 100% associative like the floppy? don't know any...

A square with the top left corner cut out is the universal sign for save.

Hi
Glyphicons (the icons in the middle) solved the issue in this way. Probably FA will do the same
http://tagliala.github.io/vectoriconsroundup/#floppy-disk
http://tagliala.github.io/vectoriconsroundup/#save
http://tagliala.github.io/vectoriconsroundup/#saved
My concern with the current icon-save is mainly the design. It is ugly (sorry about that). I rather have a save icon as my draft in the #1405 or as Glyphicons... =]
I don't care about the naming.... =] but icon-floppy is probably better
The current icon save should be replaced as well as the floppy disk should be replaced with a filled in version
exactly! =]
Just played around with Glyphs for fun and to try and learn that application and came up with an alternative filled in version for the floppy... Why not share? =]
bit offtopic: but how would one proceed when he/she would like to replace the current icon-save with the one above to make my own version of the font-awesome fontfiles?
(I tried googling for this but did not find anything useful)
Is there ANY change that the floppy icon is going to change or is new brand icons the only thing we are concerning ourselves with at the moment Excuses me for the rant-like question, but the current icon is BUTT UNGLY! and I would say that changing it into something completely different or into what I suggested above would be like a 5 minute job? Why is it not happening? Why keeping the old icon? WHY!?!?!?!
@doedje are you suggesting to improve the floppy icon or add a new version?
if yes, please open a new request with a proper title and provide your example above.
This request is about replacing icon-save with something different
Icon-floppy is here: #2692
Having fun with that issue now
- daddy, what's that ?
- a floppy
- what is it for ?
- it was used to record data before CDs existed,
when daddy was very young - but it's useless now.
- what's a CD ?
- something to scare birds in the fruit trees...
by the way you can play with those floppies or CDs. Don't let the dog eat them though.

A couple years ago, we had a brief discussion on Twitter about a new save icon concept.

The work is Adam Hunter Peck's and I'd still love to see it added to FA. Perhaps as fa-save-alt?
