How about an icon for an X-ray film (an icon of an X-ray of a hip, for example).
Have any images you like for this? I'm all for more healthcare-related icons.
You mean a PNG of an actual X-ray to base it off of?

An anonymous image of a pelvis.
I envision x-ray with a broken bone like this:

I'm not an artist. ;). Whatever gets the idea across.

My two cents

I kinda like the first (red) one. The internal white part looks like it would make a really cool glyph. And it gets the idea across with a limited number of shapes.
are you working on this icon? may I PR my contribution?
Curious as to whether this might make the cut one day? I'm up for tipping with Gift Cards. :)
May I nudge this towards being labeled as "medical icons"?
I've tagged it as a medical icon which will increase its chances of getting into 4.0.
Cool.

@davegandy is this the same of #768 ?

However it looks too complex for a small icon. Few months ago I found a medical icons set and they were this complex and detailed... and totally useless in small sizes.
What about the radiation symbol?

EDIT: I see now that there is already a request for the radiation symbol.

I would suggest a zoomed in view of an X-ray-ed knee. Side-view. Basically, just the bottom of the femur and the top of the tibia. Maybe the knee cap. The knee is bent. My two cents.

@gsmethells I like this - seems simple enough, however if shrinked to a 32x32 pixels icon it is still unrecognizable. The radiation symbol is perfectly fine, but I wouldn't use it for medical X-Ray.
... just thinking out loud

This one is great:

This one too:

I like @nsimeonov's suggestion on Feb 20 with the lateral view of a knee.

Another option: use a Caduceus with a rectangle border and a dog-eared page corner.

Or use a Staff of Asclepius symbol instead of a Caduceus symbol. Actually, either of those symbols would be great without a border, too, since they are medical and very general.

I used the new combining feature to overlay the × and film alt icons (fa-times and fa-film-alt) to represent x-ray film. This is probably a lot more legible than the complicated designs proposed so far. If we ever get a 'bone' icon, you could use the same technique to roll your own.
An x-ray icon is included in the latest 5.0.7 release of Font Awesome Pro: https://fontawesome.com/icons?d=gallery&q=x-ray
