Created on 8 Jul 2018  ·  136Comments  ·  Source: libretro/flycast

I started a compatibility list, all tests with the OIT core. Keep in mind i only played them a few minutes (there could be more issues in late game).
Non-MAME dump are deprecated, don't report issue with them.

For Gundam, go into service menu and set player to 1 I stead of 2.

If you save the 2 extra files it generates (eeprom and the other I forgot), it will save your service menu settings.

Zero Gunner 2, Naomi version, fully playable with this lst:

ZeroGunner2
"ZeroGunner2.bin", 0x00000000, 0x05800000

@barbudreadmon @flyinghead Now that lightgun support has been implemented for the Dreamcast hardware, I think the building blocks are in place for us to look into Naomi lightgun support now.

@stizzo1 Thanks, will post it.

@twinaphex Yes, i also noticed the keyboard support (i kinda remember "typing of the dead" having an arcade version), i'll try to take a look this week-end.

I just tested for curiosity, the SEGA Beach Spikers game, for Naomi hardware.

With the Naomi1 bios, I get the error 01 "this game not acceptable by main board"

I also tried with the Naomi2 bios, revision epr-23605.ic27, the game seems to start after the bios logo, but the screen remains black and freeze. (I have to forcibly close the program)

Beach Spikers is Naomi 2. This is far more powerful hardware than baseline Naomi 1/Atomiswave, Reicast doesn't support it yet. Demul is the only emulator so far that does.

@stizzo1 Yes, this is a naomi2 game, and naomi2 is not currently supported. It seems reicast has a "naomi2 mode" in its source (it's probably extremely preliminary though, from what i saw they just change ram size and the such), but we are forcing the "naomi1 mode" as soon as the lst extension is detected. It has been on my mind but i'm not totally sure how to get around this :

  • i have thought about using subsystems but i'm not sure @twinaphex would love this solution since it's not UI friendly
  • loading original mame roms would be a solution since we could guess the system from the name of the rom, but i had trouble from the get-go when i tried to implement it (basically retroarch will try uncompressing the zip file instead of reading it as a whole)

@twinaphex, @barbudreadmon, thanks for your answers.

I already knew, but I wanted to try the same :-)

I hope, that in the near future, there is also the possibility for Reicast, to be even better than a Demul.

Many thanks to all of you and the developers/programmers who are working on this Wonderful emulator.

Definitely, I think Naomi 2 and Windows CE support are definitely the two biggest omissions right now. So this would definitely be the idea.

Who goes slow and steady, Wins!

The important thing now is the bugfix and the performance improvement.

Just wondering, perhaps @p1pkin would be interested in sharing some insight about what we would need for Windows CE or Naomi 2 support ? While Demul can't go open-source for various reasons, i don't think he is against sharing information with open-source software, especially since he is a MAME developper too.

Dear @barbudreadmon, my dream would be to bring together the developers of a Reicast, a ppsspp and a Dolphin, for the definitive Emulator.

Even asking another developer, according to my point of view, is never bad, on the contrary, it also makes us understand the humility and commitment of a person or more people.

It would be nice, if you could talk freely with the developers of a Mame, or even better, with the developers of a Demul.

They are focused on Desktop and X86, your work on Reicast, also on Android.

If talking to them, you could have the right documentation and even strings of code to improve the emu, why not?

After all, the emulators are born for the game, for fun and to share the joy of Retrogaming. : -}

In my humble opinion and in my great curiosity.

PS: sorry for eng, google traslate.

WinCE require SH4 MMU emulation, which is unlikely to happen in reicast as it will require major rewrite of JIT/recompiler. plus few more hardware features, unused in DC/Naomi games - Maple at Vblank activation mode, Sort-DMA and maybe smth else I forgot.

Naomi2 will require ELAN T&L chip emulation. in Naomi2 display lists is input to ELAN as matherials, light sources, models, transformation matrices, etc so, not like Dreamcast Tile Accelerator format.
you may open Demul's gpuDX11.dll using some PE resource editor, find there PVR2_VSH (vertex shader file) which is mostly consists of ELAN simulation.

Question;

The Jit/Recompiler wich runs the Reicast, at the moment is written in 32Bit. (right?)

If you bring in ARM64 (now all smartphones have 64Bit support), would it be easier to implement any other code for emulation?

@stizzo1 SH4 is 32bit CPU, so unlikely there will be some benefits from 64bit JIT.
dont know about AArch64, but in case of x86 even the opposite, might be negative performance impact from moving to x86_64.

There are a couple of different dynarecs in Reicast right now -

rec_cpp - This is a generic dynarec that is not platform/architecture-specific. It is the slowest of them all but it can be used as a fallback when no dynarec exists for the architecture at hand.

rec_x64 - This is what we use on 64bit Windows/Linux/Mac. It uses xbyak under the hood. It is not as fast as rec_x86 or rec_arm, but it is still a lot faster than rec_cpp.

rec_arm - This is used on Android for 32bit platforms and on ARM Linux.

rec_x86 - This is used on 32bit Windows/Linux/Mac.

Then there is also dynarec code for the DSP, but this is only available for rec_x86 targets. Otherwise it defaults to interpreter.

ARM7 dynarec for AICA is available for rec_x86 and rec_arm targets. Otherwise it defaults to interpreter.

There is no Aarch64 dynarec whatsoever right now.

@p1pkin, Yes, I see.

In Android, however, there may be, the various SoCs, have different registers to operate on data and at the same time.

Many of these data can also be delegated to simd gpu. (For example, would it be possible to create entire sets of instructions and have them elaborated as if they were simple textures?)

For another example, many applications in Android, exploit the integer, but the registers FP, are left empty, if you could take advantage of it, it would be good.

In the emu Dolphin, by default the integer is used, I have found that by enabling FP, the emulation is significantly faster, than with the integers (the CPU, I think, is already busy making most of the software move with the mainstreams registers)

@twinaphex, thank you for explanation.

@p1pkin Thanks for all those informations ! At the very least now we know what we lack :).

@barbudreadmon welcome, as for other games -
Quiz Ah Megamisama - glitches on characters and text --- afair such artifacts happen if used bad crack or game protection was not cracked at all.
many of "unplayable" games, like Crazy Taxi for example, doesn't work because of primitive and wrong JVS MCU HLE.

also, does Dolphin Blue really playable ? this game is demanding to AICA emulation, if it not good enough - music/sounds will disappear at level 2, and game will hang after some time.

@p1pkin About Dolphin Blue, i confirm i went past level 2 without noticing any issue (playing on linux 64bits with my "old" i7 2600k). I kinda remember there was an issue like the one you mention, however i think it got solved months ago.

@p1pkin, @barbudreadmon, Dolphin Blue hangs in the last level (no. 5), the music of the game is present, I keep hearing it, but the game freeze.

Guys, I do not know if this is the right section, but I do not know if there is another section for the compatibility of the Dreamcast.

In any case, the game Volgarr the Viking (cdi), a nice Rastan Remake, is compatible and works well, some flickering, but everything runs smoothly.

@stizzo1 i think it would be better to open a second compatibility list for dreamcast

@barbudreadmon could you add Rival School II / Project Justice in playable? And move Samba Di Amigo in "need mapping" ?

Rival School 2/Project Justice, is full playable in Naomi/Reicast version.

I prefer the Dreamcast version for better management of polygons, textures and colors.

For better performance, i suggest the Core 0.1-bb23007

@barbudreadmon, is possible to edit your topic and include the Dreamcast list?

Thank you.

Mamonoro needs to be set to vertical monitor mode
Sega Strike Fighter needs to be set to 1-player cabinet

Updated the listing.

is possible to edit your topic and include the Dreamcast list?

I already answered once : i think it would be better to have a separate issue.

isn't Mamonoro supposed to go under "Somewhat Playable"? and there are no LST files for 18 Wheeler DX and Sega Bass Fishing/Clay Challenge. Also, I saw Knights of Valour Seven Spirits' LST file got removed, why though?

@barbudreadmon,

Sorry, I did not understand that you refer to another OP. :-)

Edit: I have just opened the new discussion! :-D

I think @twinaphex was a bit too enthusiastic here so I removed several games from the Playable section.
I might be using bad dumps so if someone can play them, please speak up!

@flyinghead My bad.

We're still missing a few lst files BTW. I think Sega Bass Fishing/Clay Challenge is missing, so is Alien Front, maybe some others as well?

@arnoldsecret About Knights of Valour Seven Spirits - it should still exist -

https://github.com/libretro/reicast-emulator/blob/master/lst/Knights%20of%20Valour%20The%20Seven%20Spirits.lst

@flyinghead As mentioned in another issue, there is a bad dump for "Cosmic Smash" where the player will always go left, however there is also a good dump which is working properly.

Cosmic Smash back to playable

hi! can u give some tips, for searching those rooms!
i had a bad luck with ' NAOMI 2 ATOMISWAVE' or something like this...
or sagest me page if is posible! . Thanks a lot for your work! <3

WWF Royal Rumble lst:

WWF Royal Rumble
"WWF_Royal_Rumble.bin", 0x0000000, 0x08800000

You can add this game to "fully playable"

@flyinghead As mentioned in another issue, there is a bad dump for "Cosmic Smash" where the player will always go left, however there is also a good dump which is working properly.

This one works properly:
d8358351d9c6c39a544a44eb81fd2022 Cosmic Smash.bin

Lupin the Third - The Typing and The Maze of the King are playable.

@6alileo It might a platform-specific issue. I suggest you open an new issue for this problem.

Playable: Samba de Amigo and Tokyo Bus Guide (only if you know how to drive on the left-hand side...)

VERY happy to report that Crazy Taxi, Power Stone and Zombie Revenge are now playable.

Shootout Pool, Virtua/Dynamic Golf and Sega Marine Fishing will be playable in the next latest.

Hi everybody - I was wondering if someone can verify if Spikers Battle has a working second player or is it only a 1P game?

The game input test menu only shows controls for 1 player on a 2-player cabinet so I assume it's a 1P game.

I saw the same thing in the TEST menu. Although on sega retro it shows 1-2 players and shows an arcade with two sticks. Maybe this dump is specific to 1P only.

Crackin' DJ/Part 2 - Turntable game, game doesn't work unless it's configured
Dynamite Baseball Naomi - Only the joystick is working, none of the buttons respond
Ring Out 4x4 - Game assignments incorrect

Ring Out 4x4 - Game assignments incorrect

I think the cabinet had no 2P version, so it might need a 4P setup similar to pstone2 ?

Actually it needs two JVS I/O boards, 2 players each.
It doesn't like the configuration used by Power Stone 2 (1 I/O board for 4 players). I'll probably change to a dual boards configuration for both games as I think it's closer to actual hardware.

Dynamite Baseball Naomi - I checked the game test mode and all controls respond. This game uses 3 analog axes and 2 buttons for each player.

I'll probably change to a dual boards configuration for both games as I think it's closer to actual hardware.

Afaik, it won't work on pstone2, the 4P Capcom Naomi I/O board was needed (see https://www.solvalou.com/arcade_naomicapcom.php)

@arnoldsecret The games you mentioned as "Game not acceptable by main board" seem to be M4 games. Did you read https://www.libretro.com/index.php/reicast-libretro-naomi-and-mame-rom-support/ thoroughly ?

NAOMI M4 cartridges require a special BIOS file to be put inside your System directory. The M4 bios should be in a “naomi.zip” file in the BIOS folder (/dc ). The file in specific which hsould be inside that zip file is called ‘epr-21576h.ic27’.

I did got the file inside the naomi.zip file

Rhythm Tengoku - the button input cues are significantly out of sync with the music.

These 3 are bad dumps so they won't work

Bad Dump

manicpnc M4 pass bios epr-21577h.ic27 (US), ic3 bad dump, black screen

How are the Guilty Gear XX games playable? there is no GD-ROM support for now, no?

Also, the controls don't seem to work on hotd2. I can't insert coins or anything.

Same issue with "Faster than Speed" and latest Reicast core (Feb 2019)

Hello,
just tried this Mame roms:

Dead or Alive 2 | doa2 |
Dead or Alive 2 (Rev A) | doa2a |
Dead or Alive 2 Millennium | doa2m

They don't work, I have only a NAOMI logo with this message:

Capture d’écran de 2019-03-10 17-40-53

Someone has better luck?

See https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Sega_NAOMI_Error_Codes for the Naomi error codes.

Here you should probably change the country to Japan.

-Virtua Tennis 2 seems fine
-Project Justice, is fine.
-The Maze of the King is fine if I remember correctly, at least visually.
-Marvel vs Capcom 2 shows sprite flickering with Threaded enabled, too slow with it disabled. Tested with 1 and 2 Players (inputs work)
-The House of the Dead 2, is fine, except for 2P controls. See #549
-Ninja Assault and other Namco games (Mazan) are fine graphics-wise but has broken input controls, see #514
-Power Stone, doesn't pass the load game screen (RA freeze) (edit: when Rewind enabled)

Ninja Assault should work but you need to set your controller to Light Gun (and use a mouse, or a real light gun)

I have no issue with Power Stone. Are you using a mame rom?

Power Stone has issues with the rewind feature it seems, works by disabling it, I thought the feature support was core related not per-game.

Setting up Ninja Assault really challenged my patience. For every change in menu, I had to restart because Reicast (often) freezes when resuming. The usual Quick Menu -> Controls didn't show me any mapping options (after setting it to Light Gun), so I had to fiddle with the input binds which I was said should be left alone.
In any case, here are my mappings for the 360 controller.

input_libretro_device_p1 = "4"
; Trigger
input_player1_gun_aux_a_axis = "+5"
; Coin
input_player1_gun_select_btn = "7"
; Start
input_player1_gun_aux_b_btn = "6"
; Helper action
input_player1_gun_offscreen_shot_axis = "+4"

tokyobus roms are not supported yet. You can check the supported roms by browsing this source:

Great list! Just wondering, you that run Naomi in mame format on odroid xu4, are you running from latest mameset, or is better from earlier set? I think maybe from latest it be performance issue..

NeoGeo Battle Coliseum booted but the game is full of slowdowns

Same thing happens to me, not sure if it's due to a driver problem or the emulator it self. Still doing some tests to try and narrow it down.

So there seem to be a few issues with Rhythm Tengoku, I know one of them was brought up, that the button inputs seem to be out of sync, if you go into latency settings and set Poll Type Behavior to Late then it helps a little, but something else I noticed is that the game and the music aren't in sync either, the game runs just a bit faster than the music and it throws you off completely. It's not a case of the music loading in late, because comparing it to game play of someone playing it in an arcade, or even the game boy version, shows that. It's most notable in the Karate Man game, the pots fly at you faster and give you no time to react, and doesn't flow with the beat of the background track.

I don't know if it's my computer or a faulty dump of the rom, but it's very annoying.

Samurai Spirits Tenkaichi Kenkakuden is booting but is unplayable (very slow)

Perhaps I have a faulty rom

Virtua Tennis crashes RetroArch after some seconds.

Tried the "vtennis" and the "vtennisg" mame roms, same result.

Maybe a protection?

Triggerheart Hexelica "trgheart" mame rom works but has severe input lags.

Does anyone have any idea how to get games that use switches to work? E.g. Shifting from low gears to high on 18 Wheeler or flipping the switches in airline pilot? Thanks.

@dduplessis,

what you mean by "how to get games that use switches to work?"
18 Wheeler arcade version here works good, I setted all switches via Toggle Menu/Controls and then I choosed Retropad and changed the switches according to my liking and it works everything ( shifting too ).

Thanks to everyone involved in this great core release ( Flycast)

Another thing...games marked as "network games" can be played disabling the network thing in the cabinet options ( press Test button ).
Here Heavy Metal Geomatrix Rev B works good after I disabled the network option.
Same thing for Spawn :)

Yeah... I didn't have things running with mame format. I was using old bin/lst format. With mame format it works.

PS: For those getting the wheel error with 18wheelr. I noticed that the mame zip contains all the version of the game. If you extract wheelru from that zip, then zip it up alone (make sure you don't have it in a nested dir), then run wheelru, you will no longer get the error message.

Also... what am I missing with games like canon spike. I deleted all my old remappings, so it is using predefined controls for the game. However, it looks like shot 3 & 4 are mapping to sight lines and should buttons to shot 3 & 4. There is no option for sightline, so I can't map it properly. I ended up just using my old remap file from the bin/lst version to fix it

Can you upload your old remap file from the bin/lst version so I can take a look at it? Thanks.

Here you go... hope it helps.

Thanks for the upload.
My buttons configuration is already good and if I press shoot 3 or shoot 4 I get the sightlines.
You can map the button as you want and for cross-hairs there is an option in the core option, take a look at it and to be honest I dunno if It works because I don't use it :)

Awesome! Thanks.

Hmmm... unfortunately... even setting the cross hair to enabled... they do not render... at least not in Death Crimson XO

I think it works only with keyboard and mouse...tested something with hotd2 time ago but I'm not sure.

Hmmm... unfortunately... even setting the cross hair to enabled... they do not render... at least not in Death Crimson XO

They do. I had to go to the service menu to calibrate the guns because shots were off with DCOX and the crosshairs helped me get dead on aim.

So I’m setting up Naomi on my arcade cabinet and a few things I’d like to report. Not sure if they are bugs or end user error.

On windows x64 One is crosshair color changing per player doesn’t seem to work. I have tried to have p1 set to blue and p2 set to red and both are blue even though guns are completely independent of each other.

Second is HOTD2 refuses to load, including all clones.

Third is I cannot get the “YAW” function of the controls in Gun Survivor 2 to work even though I have buttons mapped to it.

i'm gonna make this clear : this is a compatibility list, bug reports shouldn't be posted here.
i'll do a big clean up of this issue soon

@BroKill thanks for the heads up about network games

HOTD2 refuses to load, including all clones.

Do you have the hod2bios in the system/dc folder?
Here It works good, MAME rom of course.

I cannot get the “YAW” function of the controls in Gun Survivor 2 to work even though I have buttons mapped to it.

I'm using a xbox360 controller and I mapped yaw- and yaw+ to the analog right stick and works good.

Let me rephrase... the cross hairs rendered in the test menu. They do not render in game... when using a controller.

Anyone else experience severe input lag for Trigger Heart Exelica. Like a 1 second delay on all inputs. Only game so far exhibiting this behavior

BroKill....Virtual On has pre-defined keys... but is missing mappings. There is no way to jump, and there is a R-Left, Up, Down, but no right.

BroKill... vtennis/power smash crashes when you push start. I will try a different rom to see if it a rom issue.

Anyone else experience severe input lag for Trigger Heart Exelica. Like a 1 second delay on all inputs. Only game so far exhibiting this behavior

Yes, this was a long standing bug in Makaron as well that afaik never got fixed. Funny thing is if you go into the Naomi service menu inputs are normal.

I’m using Demul for this one game as I’ve found out how to correct its Gsync issues by using a frame limiter.

dduplessis,

I have not tried the games you mentioned..I will do when I have time.

Happy New Year!!!

PS: Correction to vtennis. Just let the players walk to the net. The game will crash without pressing any buttons.

OK guys. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. I went through entire list of Naomi games, and got 80+ of them to work. I am now on Atomiswave games. However, everyone is loading with a Naomi boot screen, and throwing an "Error 01"

PS: They all load fine with demul70, and show an AtomisWave boot screen. They are all in MAME format BTW.

Sorry All.. this appears to be a hyperspin/rocketlauncher issue.... NOT a Retroarch/Flycast issue. It loads fine directly

OK guys. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. I went through entire list of Naomi games, and got 80+ of them to work. I am now on Atomiswave games. However, everyone is loading with a Naomi boot screen, and throwing an "Error 01"

You need the atomiswave bios in system/dc folder.

So the actual issue was that I had the zip file setting set for Hyperlaunch, and retro arch expects it to be unzipped. All I had to do was disable the zip setting.

Dang. Didn’t know I had 2 accounts on github. Sorry.

Maze of the Kings requires P1 as lightgun and Typing of the Dead requires both players as keyboard.

@BroKill — I don't see that option in the service mode to disable.

@BroKill — I don't see that option in the service mode to disable.

What option?

@BroKill — I don't see that option in the service mode to disable.

What option?

Network connection on some Naomi games.

Ok...it's only in the cabinet options for network games like Heavy Metal Geomatrix and Spawn ( the only two I play ).
An example for Heavy Metal Geomatrix:
load the game, press Test button, with Service button go to Game Test Mode, wait until Game Test Mode appears and then select with Service button game configuration, then first option is Network and select OFF....save and exit.

@BroKill @kage2051 spawn & hmgeo will also work properly with latest core version if you delete your previous eeproms (i'm forcing network off for first time users)

Ok @barbudreadmon, I will try :)

I tested the last core version for RA and it has sound issues with spawn and hmgeo ( with other NAOMI games it has no problem ).
I also deleted eeproms but I got same result, the audio is heavily distorded ( tested with 3 video drivers : GL, Vulkan and D3D11 ).
I switched to my previous version ( downloaded November last year ).
Hope you or flyinghead can solve this problem.

Hi!
When can we expect Wild Riders compatibility???
Please add it ASAP :)

Wild Riders is a Naomi 2 game so don't hold your breath

I WILL hold my breath. It's the best game ever, they need to add compatibility soon.

"they" ?

Yes, they. The developers of flycast.

Ninja Assault and Ninja Assault US: crashes (SEGFAULT) if we let it go to the intro.
If we however insert a coin prior to that, the game runs well. No controls seem to work, though, other than shooting.

vtenis2c, vtennis, sstrkfgt and vonot seem to work well from the brief time I tested.

Thanks for the great work here.

EDIT: Apologies. sstrkfgt needs to be set to 1 player, and joystick axis are rotated. Don't know much about vonot's controls.
EDIT 2: Thanks @Dogway . You're right: I was mixing up the Arcade and the Home release for the test. vtennis does crash miserably. Sorry for misleading.

vtennis crashes for me after the pre-match intro. Starting to think to rollback to prev version.

vtennis has always crashed. This is a known issue.

Ninja Assault needs a Light gun controller.

Ninja Assault needs a Light gun controller.

Thanks. Apologies for the question: are you referring to a settings thing (setting lighting as the controller type for one of the players), or an actual light gun to be played?

Keep up the great work.

You need to set your controller type as Light gun. A mouse can be used to emulate it.

Hello:

Any news about Virtua golf (Virtua Golf / Dynamic Golf (Rev A) (GDS-0009A) | dygolf ?

I've been testing it today and the controls don't work, so you can "run" the game but you can't really "play it".

Thanks in advance and kind regards. Fantastic emulator.

Virtua Golf works fine. It uses a trackball, which is emulated by a mouse. No need to set the controller as mouse though.

OK; my "problem" is that I'm trying to play this game using EmuELEC with an Amlogic TV-Box (which uses Flycast core to play DC, Naomi and Atomiswave games).

Any option to configure a "normal" control pad (like the PS4 one) for using it with Virtua Golf?

And thanks for the answer.

So is Virtua Fighter 4 not compatible? I get:

[libretro WARN] 00:00:038 hw/naomi/naomi_cart.cpp:196 W[NAOMI]: Unknown game vf4

Rhythm Tengoku has issues. As previously stated, the music and the game don't line up; the game is running faster than the music, causing a huge desync, making the game unplayable. I'm not sure about actual input delay, that seemed fine. Everything else also seems to work fine.

Hello, I have latest Mame merged romset and Fist of the North Star (fotns.zip) does not launch, it says it misses ax1901f01.bin file. I have a bad Mame rom ? Something else I forgot?
Thank you for your help.

@legluondunet

  1. don't mention piracy website
  2. there is no reference anymore to that file in flycast (it was removed last year), so you aren't using flycast (or you are using a really old version : don't)
  3. don't treat github as a support forum

@Massouille78 this is a compatibility list, please report issues in separate issues if you want them to be looked into

@barbudreadmon thank you for your answer, I think I'm using effectively an old Flycast version and sorry for the noise.

@barbudreadmon Ok, sorry for the inconvenience, so I create issues.

Thanks for the comprehensive list. came here to check why derby owners club 2 gave me error 02. Good luck squashing the bugs!

zombrvn works. I played an hour more or less and I did not have any problem
