Express: repo needs more maintainers?

Created on 31 Jul 2018  路  3Comments  路  Source: expressjs/express

seems that progress is slowly grinding to a halt, and express 5.0 is almost a year untouched

do the current maintainers have time to keep maintaining this, or can we add more maintainers to keep the momentum going?

Express is made up of three organizations full of repos. We even just released a preview of async promises the other day :)

You can try it out with npm install [email protected] (released 12 days ago).

I'm going to follow up and say that we do lack folks for certain roles, though. Devs are easy to come by, especially since they are already making lots of PRs and discussions. We have a list of core maintainers on the expressjs.com if you're interested to see who is there as well. We had a lot of doc working, though it is mostly one guy now.

The expressjs.com for example could use some nice step by step fuller tutorials, where right now a lot of the teaching is left for books and other sites to fill that gap, so there is still a lot of base work there no one is currently filling in.

Another basic gap is a kind of dev advocate type. For example, just someone who has the know how and writing skills to even just post and write about things happening like the new router alpha I posted above as an example :) I am a terrible writer type person, just always in writer block for those kinds of things :)

We also have some community areas like this issue tracker but more the Gitter room and IRC that could use some kind of official moderator. Could be someone who is already there who is interested in the role. They don't need technical knowledge (that that is a bonus) but just moderation to keep things from flaring up.

There are regulars who help in Stackoverflow and Gitter etc already but if any want to be more "official" just reach out and we can arrange something along that as well :)

I hope this makes sense. As devs go, there are a lot of ways to help on that front, from opening issues about bugs / feature ideas to PRs with prototypes and fixes. That's pretty much the starting point to become a full blown maintainer (it's laid out in the Governance doc in the express repo).
