Riot Web stop receiving new messages and events after installing Firefox 71 update.

Steps to reproduce

Install Firefox 71 update.
Open Riot Web.
Login to Matrix account.
Switch tab multiple times and wait for 3-5 minutes.

Describe how what happens differs from what you expected.

Riot should work fine as it was in Firefox < 71, but it doesn't. After 3-5 minutes of inactivity it stop receiving new messages and events in Matrix rooms. I use matrix.org homeserver.

Platform: web

For the web app:

Browser: Firefox 71
OS: Fedora
URL: both riot.im/app and self-hosted version.

This Fedora bug seems to suggest the browser storage is broken in some way for Fedora's custom build of Firefox 71. Given that, this does not seem like Riot specific issue.

@xvitaly can you give us as much detail as possible about your firefox settings, in particular, site content / cookie settings? Also, does it work in a fresh profile? And if you can open firefox dev tools and copy the console log that could be really helpful (I'm assuming 'submit bug report' won't work: it doesn't on #11609 which looks similar).

This Fedora bug seems to suggest the browser storage is broken in some way for Fedora's custom build of Firefox 71. Given that, this does not seem like Riot specific issue.

It claims to have indexeddb support but then: The operation failed for reasons unrelated to the database itself and not covered by any other error code

so yeah, I would say something is definitely going quite badly with that build of firefox :/

I can reproduce the error with the Fedora build of Firefox 71, and Riot works as described in the Fedora ticket with the upstream Mozilla build of Firefox 71.

I don't think there is anything we can do on our side. Possible workarounds are using the Mozilla upstream build for now at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/download/, downgrading Firefox or of course using an alternative browser for the time being.

We'll update things here as things evolve on Fedora's side.
