In the example above, https://riot.im/develop/#/room/#bsd:matrix.org 2017-04-28 03:08 BST:
In this case, based on my memory of the content of the room, the prompt to jump is believable but re: https://github.com/vector-im/riot-web/issues/3746#issuecomment-297886785 when clicked, there is no jump.
Basically: in the left hand column, I clicked the room.
That's far from a set of steps – sorry – but whilst #3746 seems to be a complication of this issue (or vice versa), if I attempt to make things reproducible, I'll probably become terribly confused.

The "boldness" of the room name is based on "unread" count which is different state to the RM. Perhaps we could give a RoomTile boldness if the RM !== RR.
Would that make sense @richvdh ? I vaguely remember you possibly suggesting this or similar?
I don't remember proposing that. I suspect this might be something which depends a bit on user preference. You might want to check with @ara4n.
I'm a little confused. https://matrix.to/#/!DgvjtOljKujDBrxyHk:matrix.org/$1493346605753696tmtvE:matrix.org
If a room has no unread messages, then the name of the room appears without emphasis (appears regular, not bold). True?
yes
Does a room also appear regular (not bold) when there are a few unread messages?
I've flagged this as a UX bug because it seems like there's some ambiguity in the meaning of room tile boldness.
It certainly isn't obvious what a 'fix' would be, but suggests we should have a think about what needs expressing and how we might more unambiguously express it :)
the intention is that unread messages of any kind = bold. unread messages which are notifs = badge with number of notifs. if any of those notifs are "noisy", then the badge is red, otherwise green.
https://github.com/vector-im/riot-web/issues/3363 is the metabug for this.
in terms of the earlier discussion of whether RM should be considered in the unreadness of a room - life's too short. If there have been messages since you send an RR, it should be bold; otherwise, not.

:+1: that's intuitive. Thanks.
If it helps: with /dev/ I most often find the _absence_ of boldness after switching to a room, then away, then back to the room and there's a prompt to jump to an unread message. I trust the prompt to jump.

I haven't got my head around that sort of thing yet. Maybe a few pennies will drop all at once, maybe I'll get a bigger picture, after a few more days' use of /dev/.
