Most helpful comment

Using the desktop installed version of Riot.im
_Attempting to initiate a screen-share type video call._
Still an issue noted in early 2020. Unable to initiate video-type call with another user in private message.
States "Couldn't start capturing media! Is your microphone set up and does this app have permission?"
A voice call did work, but video call did not, either with clicking or Shift+Clicking.
I do not have a webcam, but was testing for screen-share or non-webcam for one user capability.
Other user did have a webcam, and I was unable to join. Zero screen-share options available, and unable to connect to user with webcam when I have none.

I think this is closed as we move to jitsi for conferencing.

Not fixed in 1:1s

Still a roadblock for current riot. Can't do video call or screen sharing without webcam.

Just an FYI, there is software which imitates a webcam and can just send a blank feed as an interim workaround.

Hmmm haven't seen that. But I wonder how much it would take for this to be fixed in riot though...

it'd need fairly considerable changes in js-sdk and react-sdk from the top of my head

Any updates on this?

Nope otherwise they would be here.

Thanks for the workaround. What software is it?

Also if you add the jitsi widget to your chat, video calls are working for me.
