There's no such thing as channels in Matrix/Element. Matrix does not work like Discord - Rooms are a bit like WhatsApp groups rather than Discord Guilds. However, communities are getting a re-design so eventually it will work a bit like Discord, and hopefully then, the app will work a bit like that too.

@Oymate those are rooms. OP is talking about switching channels within rooms, which is not a thing (at least for now).

@TR-SLimey @Oymate There is a channels thing in Matrix. You can have threads/channels by tagging the messages. It would be similar to Discord or Slack. It is in the spec: https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-doc/pull/2326 Synapse supports it, but currently there is no client that can tag messages or display threads.

@notramo I've always heard people refer to that as threads and never channels. Besides, I don't think that's what was being asked here, but maybe I'm wrong.

@Oymate Thread filtering isn't a thing yet. But I guess when it will be implemented, it will be done similarly to that.
