Elastalert: Prometheus metrics support

Created on 10 Feb 2020  路  8Comments  路  Source: Yelp/elastalert

Hi,
is there any work going on towards adding prometheus metrics support for Elastalert?
Would appreciate any kind of update on this, since I have seen couple of PRs regarding this that havent been merged into master.
I'd assume prometheus metrics have become very essential for monitoring in kubernetes and that they help in solving many use cases. Opinions?

My opinion is that the project is abandoned, someone has to take ownership of this... with 994 open issues, and 107 PRs, and only one or two maintainers (I remember when I was hanging out here frequently back in 2017, there was like two maintainers) the project just can't keep up.

Someone has to adopt this project otherwise it'll die :( it fills in a niche in the alerting space, that no other tool does, I don't understand why some company won't adopt and take care of it. Yelp doesn't seem to have any interest in the opensource version feature requests and maintenance, they should donate it to Apache foundation or something IMHO 馃槄

Hi, @Shashankft9
Prometheus is Prometheus. ElastAlert should scope on Elasticsearch. If you store prometheus metrics on Elasticsearch (I don鈥檛 know how to do) ElastAlert can alert. Are you storing the Prometheus metrics on Elasticsearch?

Hi, @Dmitry1987
Want to help this project with me?

@daichi703n I wish I could 馃槅 my current startup where I work, is a 12-14 hour shifts, all my plants on the balcony died because I have no time to water them 馃ぃ

@Dmitry1987 I see your situation... I also think it is good idea that donate ElastAlert to Apache Foundation or other community, company (Elastic, etc.).

@daichi703n Hi, think you got the wrong idea here. I am not really looking towards alerting through elastalert when it sees a metrics, thats something that can be done through prometheus itself. What I am suggesting here is that, elastalert should expose some prometheus metrics for monitoring purpose. People have worked towards this feature, but nothing has been merged to the master or released.

@Shashankft9 I'm sorry I misread. I see, and I agree with you.

For reducing developer work, would you like to close this issue and comment on the PR #2622 ?

2211 seems to be updated and moved to #2622 .

@daichi703n hi Daichi, hope you are well. I have it open because the issue hasnt been resolved yet, I have commented on the updated PR as well.

@Qmando hey, I noticed that there has been a new release from Elastalert, thanks for that it solves my issue: https://github.com/Yelp/elastalert/issues/2589
Can you give your opinion on this though? Should we expect Prometheus support with Elastalert?
