From VS Feedback:
When adding an edmx model or updating the table, views and store procedure selection is cutoff or blank
EF Team Triage: This issue is lacking enough information for us to be able to effectively triage it. In particular, it is missing the following information requested in the new issue template. Can you please provide this information?
Steps to reproduce
Ideally include a complete code listing that we can run to reproduce the issue.
Alternatively, you can provide a project/solution that we can run.
BTW we're not just doing this to be mean ... we get a lot traffic on this project and it takes time to attempt to reproduce an issue based on fragments of information. In addition, our attempt is often unsuccessful as the exact conditions required to hit the issue are often not explicitly included in the code provided. To ensure we maximize the time we have to work on fixing bugs, implementing new features, etc. we ask that folks give us a self-contained way to reproduce an issue.
For a guide on submitting good bug reports, read Painless Bug Tracking.
BTW this is a canned response and may have info or details that do not directly apply to this particular issue. While we'd like to spend the time to uniquely address every incoming issue, we get a lot traffic on the EF projects and that is not practical. To ensure we maximize the time we have to work on fixing bugs, implementing new features, etc. we use canned responses for common triage decisions.
Here are the steps to reproduce.

Also when you go back in to update the model nothing shows up except for "Retrieving database information, please wait..."
Side note not sure if it's prudent, but this is connecting to a MySQL database.
@tottes200 - we are not seeing that in current builds - so could you provide a few more details please - e.g. operating system, version(s) of VS installed and which one you are using when you see this, version(s) of .NET installed and using in this project, what kind of project you created etc. As much as you can to help us track it down please.
Also - if you wait a long time does that message ever go away? That message is supposed to appear while querying the database for the tables, views, sprocs to display. But it should go away once it has retrieved the information. If so, how long does it take and what numbers of tables, views, sprocs do you have in your database?

Also, it never comes up no matter how long it sits.
@tottes200 Thanks - that's great info - I'll see if I can repro on my end.
@tottes200 I'm sorry. I've tried multiple different ways with as close as I can get to your setup and I can't repro the problem - the wizard always looks good to me. But I realize that doesn't help you much.
Potential workaround: that dialog is resizable - if you try expanding it as large as it goes does that help you navigate to the tables, views & sprocs that you need even if some portion of the screen is still covered by the message?
Potential workaround 2: does changing the screen resolution help?
EF Team Triage: Closing this issue as we have been unable to reproduce it.
I'm having the same issue
Same error here.
I created a ticket a couple of days ago.
https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/problem/562586/entity-data-model-wizard-display-error.html
This is caused by large fonts. I have a 4K monitor and fonts set to 150% and experience exactly this problem. The work-around is to change your fonts back down to 100%, close VS and reopen. Now it behaves properly. Of course, the fonts are too freaking tiny, but at least this wizard is functional. Select the items you need to get passed that, then go and enlarge your fonts again so you can read.
Reopening To try to repro with different font size in high density display.
Cc @lajones @ajcvickers
@lajones Was this fixed by #934?
@ajcvickers No. That was for the Model Browser and Mapping Details Windows. I'm working on this now.
Note: the VS side of this fix this was checked in (internal PR 188912) and the fix will appear in 16.2 Preview 4.
