Dockerfile-maven: Broken Pipe Error when using Docker for Mac

Have been trying to use the dockerfile-maven-plugin with the following configuration:

Also, tried to set the DOCKER_HOST variable to unix:///var/run/docker.sock and it didn't work. I can build docker images (without problems) manually.

Ok, so this was bugging me too much that I decided to debug this maven plugin. I discovered that the docker-client API appears to wrap an exception that makes this broken-pipe message misleading. It appears that the real problem was related to the name of the image containing an uppercase.

The project above used the maven project name in camel case (as defined in ${project.artifactId}). This is ok for maven, but not ok for docker. The error that the docker-client returns is not displayed correctly in the mojo output log.

Had the same issue. I was using
${docker.image.prefix}/${project.artifactId}
and my project.artifactId was using camel case. Changed it to Kebab case. All good ;)

I've stopped using this plugin now. I'm doing it the old fashioned way - separate Dockerfile (hand maintained). Reason: I want to publish to fat-jars to oss.sonatype.org and to docker-hub on different cadences.

Yeah just encountered this. Spent an 2 hours trying to figure it out and it really only had to do with the name of the image!

Same problem on windows:

I/O exception (java.net.SocketException) caught when processing request to {}->http://localhost:2375: Connection reset by peer: socket write error

Using for the image-name only lower case letters has resolved the error here as well.
