Cwa-documentation: Connectivity to laboratories / Transfer of QR code / QR code not working

Created on 6 Aug 2020  ·  158Comments  ·  Source: corona-warn-app/cwa-documentation

We received the feedback from the following entities:

  • Apple App Store ratings
  • Google Play Store rating
  • Hotline employees through Slack

that since 28.07. test results cannot fetched through the app.

This means that the QR code does not work, or that the user does not receive a test result even though that the user informed the doctor or health agency multiple days ago.

Open questions:

  • Are the not functional QR codes or codes which cannot be used anymore? How many of these are currently on the market?
  • Is there a problem with the server?
  • Why are no results coming back or so much delayed, even though the user entered them successfully?

To everybody having the same problems: Please report such errors as comments to this issue. Thanks!

My test result is also not visible in the app (Android 10, App version 1.7.1, Nokia 6.1).

I did the test at my local Teststrecke for Main-Spessart in Marktheidenfeld (Bavaria).
Laboratory: Eurofins LifeCodexx GmbH, Konstanz

The procedure was as follows (all times in CET):
26.11.2020 - Test day:

  • Sampling at 11

27.11.2020 - The day after the test:

  • E-Mail including QR-Code for CWA at 3 ->16 h after sampling
  • Scanned QR-Code with CWA at 8 -> 21 h after sampling. No error message.
  • Negative Test result via mail at 10 -> 23 h after sampling
  • App knows nothing about my updated test status (Ergebnis liegt noch nicht vor) even 12 h after the result mail from the laboratory.

If someone from TSI/RKI/SAP is in contact with the laboratory:
They should state on theire first mail "Covid Test Bayern - Registrierungs-ID / Registration-ID" that the huuuuuuge QR-Code is only for internal purposes and not meant for the app. I did not scan this code b/c i asked the staff at the Teststrecke if this is for the CWA and they said no. But it is confusing as they do not write that the QR-Code for the app will be sent via mail after sampling...

I was just asked to post the experience of a user who encountered this issue:

They were tested on the 30.07. and got a sheet with a QR Code that specifically stated, that the QR Code is meant for the CWA. On the 05.08. they got their (negative) result via snail-mail, while the app still shows "results pending".

Their device:

  • Samsung A 40, Android 10
  • CWA 1.1.1

Here is the Twitter thread: https://twitter.com/ChrisHinri4/status/1291103825076649985

What is the exact name of the app stated on the paper. Corona-Warn-App or Covid19-App
What is the testing lab?

Just saw this article in the Ärzte Zeitung, maybe this is related?
grafik

What happens in such cases? Do users still get QR Codes, but the laboratories will never submit their results? Or are those users not getting a QR code in the first place?

I got feedback from another person on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Topf_Sigrid/status/1291410706873692164
They got tested and later got their result via phone, while CWA still shows "result pending".

  • Family with 4 Android phones all using CWA 1.1.1
  • They definitely got CWA codes, I will forward you a photo of their sheets they send me via mail (for privacy reasons)
  • I will also send you their lab location via mail (for privacy reasons)

I don’t know when exactly they got tested and when they got their result via phone. I’ve asked them and will update as soon as I get an answer :).

Update: They did their test on the 04.08. and got their result via phone on the 06.08.

Thanks for your help and of course a statement that they really saw that point 9 was checked on the Auftrag für Testung to allow the lab to send the result via qr code.

Whether or not this box 9 was ticked in their case is not something those ppl could find out retroactively by looking at the documents they got, right?

This is correct the upper part is send out to the lab. They need to remember if the doctor ask them and he marked it or they marked it

Puh ok… I'll ask them but I doubt that anyone would remember such a detail tbh…

They don't know whether or not this box was checked by their doc. They were in a separate room while the paperwork was done in another room. They only got the sheets of which I sent you a photo by mail.

To my mail ?

I sent it to corona-warn-app.[email protected] should I re-send it to your address as well?

This would be faster thanks

done :)

Thanks looks good. Can the user provide information about the test lab?

They gave me the city of the lab which I also included in this mail, do you need more specific information?

Thanks this was very helpful. It is unfortunately that they not attending while the first part was filled out.

It is unfortunately that they not attending while the first part was filled out.

Yes ik.

I fear most ppl will not bother with those intricacies and if we're unlucky docs might not tick this box and users will simply register this as "app is not working" as it keeps showing "pending results" indefinitely.
Is there maybe a way to get a message to users if their box 9 was not ticked which would inform them that their test will be processed, but their result will only get to them via phone/mail? I'm thinking of something like changing the status of their test from "pending" to something like "Testresult will come by phone because …".

Just a quick question: if a lab is not fully connected to the system (like the ones talked about in this Spiegel article), the patients will not get QR Codes for CWA in the first place, right? Because if not properly connected testing stations would give out QR Codes, it's no surprise that those don't work.

@daimpi As we discussed on Twitter: We (three family members) were tested on August 4th, no results available, yet. We scanned QR Codes with 2 XIAOMI Androids and an iPhone XR. Sometimes I get errors with "Test aktualisieren". See https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-app-android/issues/984 and https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-app-android/issues/968#issuecomment-670971162
Unfortunately we do not know, which lab was involved. Monday morning I am going to phone the hotline provided in the FAZ article to find out. Unfortunaly we do not know either, whether we checked Box Number 9 in the form.

@kira99 thanks for sharing. I just want to add some more things from our twitter thread which might be helpful :)

You said that you filled out the form according to a template which was provided there, right? The station where you got tested was "Rastanlage Donautal-Ost an der A3 bei Passau" (link), maybe someone could get a copy of the template they used, to check whether or not box 9 is ticked there?

@daimpi I found somebody on Twitter, who has been tested on Friday 31st of July in Donautal Ost and does not have her result, yet. I asked her whether she ckecked box 9 in a private message and she told me, she did check it. https://twitter.com/JuleRiede/status/1291373882704879616?s=20

@kira99 thanks for the info :)

That speaks against my hypothesis that unticked box 9 is the main culprit. One thing I'm additionally curious about: there should always be a second line of notification via phone call or snail-mail: https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-app-android/issues/960#issuecomment-667996582.

So I'm wondering: why is this 2nd line of notification not working? For someone who did their test on the 31st July the results surely must exist.
When did you do your test btw? And did you leave a phone number/address at the test station so they could contact you?

Our Test was on August 4th.This is why I am going to phone the hotline mentioned in the FAZ article tomorrow. Read this: https://m.faz.net/aktuell/gesellschaft/gesundheit/coronavirus/corona-tests-in-bayern-fuer-reiserueckkehrer-oft-nutzlos-16895169.amp.html
It is another possility.

Oh wow, what a mess…

Yes that faz article actually seems to be the most plausible explanation for the issues you were experiencing. If they even mess up assigning results to patients it's no surprise that CWA will not show any results.

@daimpi Actually we filled in two forms. One was the one with the QR Code and the second one was for our home adress and our holiday destination. Even if they lost the one with the home address they could still submit the result to CWA.

I see.
So the question now becomes how/where exactly they messed up, fun 😅

Today I phoned the hotline. They could not find our data. So maybe the second form got lost, this is an explanation, why we did not get a call or a letter. I still think they should be able to send the result through the app.

I just got feedback from another user on Twitter: they did their test on the 04.08. also at the "Donautal Ost" station.
They say, that they didn't tick box 9 as ticking this box was not indicated on the template they received for filling out their forms: https://twitter.com/Benjami49969373/status/1292883340698300418

I have experienced this issue, too. I got tested on Friday morning and got the 10Cb/E form. My doctor asked me about the Corona-Warn-App specifically (whether I had it and if I wanted to get results quicker and automatically by it) and explained to me that with the QR code, I'd be able to get results probably within 24 hours.
When I didn't get results by Monday afternoon, I called at my doctor's office, explained the situation and they were able to give me the results (negative). The app, however, still has pending results.

Sadly, we can't verify if the box was ticked or not, though. But considering how explicitly my doctor asked me about it, I assumed it was (but I didn't see it on Friday, as I was filing other papers while my doc finished that up). I can tell which doctor and lab it was non-publicly, though, if that helps anyone?

@parttimehorse thanks for this information. The doc/lab info you can maybe send to the CWA email-address: [email protected] :)

Hi all, I have done Corona test on last friday 07/08 at A8 Rastanlage Hochfelln-Nord, and still no result in CWA or by mail/phone. Now it's 6th day that me and my wife are waiting for result and it's getting a bit annoying that we sit at home quarantine and we can't do anything untill we get our result :/
Do you guys know how long it could take untill we get results?

Cheers

@milovancevic3 I would try to call the number from the faz article @kira99 linked above: 09131/68 08 51 01

It seems the testing stations had a massive mess up:

@daimpi thanks for quick reply. yes I'm calling them everyday since monday and they always say that they still don't have result and that they don't know when they will arrive :/ so I just wanted to check here with othere guys how long did they wait?

Done on 4th of August, still no result from Bavaria.

We did a new test here in our hometown on August 7th and got the results yesterday by phone.

@kira99 thank's for info. For me it's a problem that I came from "risk" country and I can't now leave home(quarantine) so I could do new test somewhere else. I suppose you didn't need to be in quarantine?

@milovancevic3 No, we didn't. Phone your local Gesundheitsant to find out, whether you can redo the test.

@kira99 yes I have called them but they sad we can't go out to make new test :/ so now we need to wait for results....

Same problem here: Did a test on August 10 which was sent to a lab on August 11. The doctor said the result was already available on August 11 and was able to give me the result by phone, but until today (August 12) the app still states that the result is pending. Will send an email with details to the CWA email-address in order to help debugging.

@SebastianWolf-SAP @thomasaugsten
Here is my summary: We (3 of a family) got testet on August 3rd in Bavaria at Donautal Ost. Scanned QR-Codes. Still no result in the app. Today we got a phone call with the results. The caller had our scanned forms and Box 9 was checked for all 3 of us! Company dealing with tests and results is Eurofins LifeCodexx.

We could give you our IDs to look them up in the database.
We have 3 devices, 2 Androids and an iPhone XR. None of them got a result.

Update: They did their test on the 04.08. and got their result via phone on the 06.08.

@thomasaugsten I just received an update regarding this post from above:

They received their result in the app today (13.08), one week after receiving it via phone on the 06.08.

That seems to indicate that box 9 was actually ticked by their physician and the problem originated somewhere else in the pipeline.

Same issue here. I had myself tested on August 6, App still displays "Ergebnis liegt noch nicht vor" and will do so FOREVER.
I am not sure whether box 9 was ticked or not, never saw the whole document, only received the lower part plus a small sticker with an additional number.
I got my results via https://www.kvhh.net/kvhh where they publish lists with the testing results, using those additional numbers.

In my case, the results where published 2 days later, but I haven't found out until 6 days later.

The current status note does not take into account that the results might already be published, but just not via the App, and is therefore misleading. This is very frustrating and unsettling for the users.

Here is another case where the test actually turned up positive, they got notified by phone, but the result status is still "pending" in CWA: https://twitter.com/dschum84/status/1294280424999522305

I found this 1 week old article:
https://www.heise.de/news/Corona-Warn-App-Haelfte-aller-Labore-kann-Daten-digital-uebermitteln-4864171.html

Assuming nearly every Testing site uses the aforementioned document but currently only half of the laboratories can even push results to CWA, we need a solution for this inside CWA infrastructure. Like disabling every QR Code until it is enabled by the laboratory, or having 3 different status: "registered, activation pending", "succesfully registered", "results published"

hello, i got tested on tegel airport on friday, aug 14th, still no results. also, when i try to scan the code given on the paper, the app says it's not correct (corona-warn-app, as mentioned on the paper). i got fever in the meantime so now i'm a bit confused on what to do and how long should i wait, as there's no contacts or numbers to call

Since you are developing symptoms: The stations in Tegel are staffed by Charité hospital and Vivantes. Please contact them. If no success: contect your local Gesundheitsamt.

yes i did another test today in the end, just in case!

For me the situation was even worse. The doctor told me that they will only call me when there is positive result (and they will do that before Saturday lunch time - meaning if I would not receive a call by that time the result is negative). I did not receive a call and by some time on Saturday the Corona App showed a negative result. On Monday I received a call from the doctor informing me that I had been tested positive. I strongly suggest to investigate this case. In times of the pandemic the last thing we need is wrong information! Luckily I stayed isolated on Sunday so no one got infected because of this misinformation. That being said it also took the App way to long to warn about an obvious exposure (my phone had been located next to someone who got infected for four straight days until i finally got a notification). Understandably I now have VERY STRONG doubts that the Corona App is ready for such widespread use - i think it might just give us a false sense of security.

@mschuessler thanks for your feedback can you please contact the lab why they connect a wrong result with your QR code? The time how long it takes until you get a warning depends on multiple factor like the time when the person submitted the keys and the time your phone is doing the daily check for exposure checks. In the next versions of the App we will check more often to reduce the time.

Hello, my girlfriend and me were both tested at the same time. We both used our given QR Codes in the Corona App. Im Using the iOS Version. My Girlfriend is using the Android Version. While i already got my results my girlfriend was still waiting for hours and hours. We then found out that there was another possibility to get the results by a second qr code which is going to the website of the laboratory. There the results of my gf were already since the same time i got my result in the corona app. So it seems like something is broken in the app.

@manuwg can you please give details about the lab? Can you please contact them and ask why there are not connected the test result with the cwa QR code of your girlfriend.

I got tested on Aug 17th at 8:30 AM and still no results. After reading all the comments I am a bit confused if I can rely on the QR code or wait for an email/phone call from the lab. Unfortunately, I do not remember the website I registered and I used my browser on incognito. Any idea which authorities are conducting tests at the Schonefeld airport?

Where did you find the second QR code please? @manuwg

We got tested in SXF airport on Aug 15th and still can't see any results in the app. Today I received my result via email, but my wife still hasn't received her result yet (even via email). We tried calling a lab, they said that the result is ready since yesterday, however, she can't reveal it to us by phone and we need to wait for an email from them.

So despite the result is ready, we can't see it within the app.

@YashchenkoN Could you please share which number did you call? Thanks in advance!

@thomasaugsten The second QR Code on the backside leads to the website skylab.labmed.de probably the website of the laboratory.

@satyamanojv We had our Test at Dortmund Airport. There we got a Paper which had the Corona App QR Code on the front and a qr code to the lab website on the back. I think this 2 QR Code solution is something that is not at every Test station so for you perhaps not possible to use.

@satyamanojv you can find a phone number here https://www.laborberlin.com/
but it makes sense to call them only if you got tested in their lab

Hi, I'm having the same problem: I got tested on Sunday and more than 72 hours later I still got no result. I only have a paper with a QR-Code on it. Is there someplace where I can call or access to check the results other than the app? Is possible to get my _auftragsnummer_ from the QR-Code I got?
I still don't know how to identify the lab or how to get the result. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Device: Android Pixel 3
App version: 1.2.1

Hi Ana,
In my case (See above) I called my local Gesundheitsamt and told them where I had myself tested. They could Tell me where to find the results online. Currently only a little more than 50% of the results are actually available through the App I suppose, regardless of whether the document with the QR Code is used or not. I think using a document is far easier than having access to the backend of a new deployed app with all the security and privacy issues involved. But hey, that's Germany and Our current Status of the Digitalization ;)

Hello,
I’m having the same issue: I took the test at Tegel Airport on the 15th of August (mid-afternoon) and the test’s result is still not displayed in the CWA. I have also checked my email and letterbox, but the result is not there either.
Speaking for TXL Airport, I created a personal QR Code via this website https://corona.esqlab.de, that was later scanned and then the staff there printed out a new QR Code to retrieve the results via CWA. There was no way for me to tick the aforementioned “box 9” during this process.

At the moment, I have sent an email to the Charité Hospital to get the results in a written form, I report below the instructions to do the same:
“Falls Sie ein schriftliches Ergebnis des Coronavirus-Tests benötigen, senden Sie eine E-Mail mit Ihrem vollständigen Namen, Geburtsdatum, Tag der Testung und bitten um das Testergebnis unter: [email protected] Bitte senden Sie Ihre Anfrage frühestens 36 Stunden, nachdem Sie am Flughafen zum Abstrich waren.”

Device: iPhone XS (iOS 13.6)
App Version: 1.2.1

@ElenaChi Thanks for the info. Please let us know if you get the results via email. I sent an email to the same address today.

@satyamanojv, I sent an e-mail for this address [email protected] an hour ago and I just got the results. :)

@anapaulagomes congratulations, they replied via email?

@satyamanojv I will, but I sent the email yesterday night and I still haven’t got a reply... @anapaulagomes good for you!

@ElenaChi thank you, we are in the same boat, seems it's quite random who they reply to the quickest. So good luck to us :)

@anapaulagomes did they reply after 1 hour? :O Did you test at the airport or some test centre?

I have sent an email to them today, still no answer....

I sent an email to [email protected] on Sunday and still have no answer. On the other hand, they replied to email sent by my wife yesteday. Fully randomized replies...

Here is another case where the result finally arrived via app, but only long after it arrived via another channel (in this case 12 days after arriving via snail mail): https://twitter.com/btrinczek/status/1295378912382525440

Test was conducted at Raststätte Hochfelln-Nord on 30.07 by Bavarian Red Cross.

@satyamanojv the results just arrived via email for me! Still nothing on the app, I will update if the results appear there as well.

I have another similar case:
I got tested on 12/08 at Stuttgart Airport. Results came in via mail on 20/08 but the app still shows "results not yet available"
Unfortunately I don't recall whether the lady at the test centre ticked the box.
https://twitter.com/SBrielmaier/status/1296411059159552002?s=20

@thomasaugsten

Is there maybe a way to get a message to users if their box 9 was not ticked which would inform them that their test will be processed, but their result will only get to them via phone/mail? I'm thinking of something like changing the status of their test from "pending" to something like "Testresult will come by phone because …".

Any update on this?
I think this proposal from @daimpi is something what would definitely help users to better understand why their test results are not in the App.

Unfortunately we cannot see tests where box 9 was not marked. But we will improve the texting in the next versions

@ElenaChi Did they reply after you texted [email protected] or you received another email from the lab?

@danemitrev they replied directly to my email

Does anyone have a contact number for the Charite lab? I still do not have any replies on my email and getting concerned, please help.

@satyamanojv I don’t know if it can help you, but these are the contact information in the pdf with the results. Also, apparently the results were already available the following day.
E44E7EBD-4A09-4E00-B62D-D789D40A0D8C

@ElenaChi thank you, I will give them a call :)

@satyamanojv I called them and they said they are not responsible for providing results. Did you reach them?

I am also concerned, since I doubt they will send any email or results during the weekend.

i've sent an email yesterday morning and received the results today (negative), after exactly 24hours! good luck!

I have just received the result, but in the app! Still no answer to my emails.

@danemitrev congratulations, it really is very random how and when you get the test results. Nothing on the app for me and still writing follow up emails to Charite.

My family and I experienced the missing notifications/updates in the cwa, too. We were tested on Wednesday, 19th August at a doctor's surgery (Hausarzt). When I called the doctor yesterday (21st August), the receptionist said that the results were available. I looked at the lab's website and was able to see our results (negative) there.

Even today, I see 'your result is not yet available' in the cwa. I don't know the details of what was checked on the form that the doctor kept, but the nurse who took our samples watched what we signed on the form and then specifically told us to use the cwa to get our results. I therefore assume that the form was filled in correctly.

When I called to ask about the results, the receptionist was surprised that we couldn't see the results in the cwa.
If you need any details, just let me know.

There is an additional (organisation / accounting) problem. Patients who are sent for testing by their family doctor usually have a referral form which we have to use for billing reasons. On this form there is usually no QR code on it or the copy is not legible. Therefor the Lab cannot register the result.

If the patients are registered via the public health department, the result is usually available 4 hours, max 6 hours later in the app and a email notification with the result is send on the next morning.

Additionally there is sometimes a delivery problem with the OEGD / 10C notes. The problem will soon be aggravated because a new note the KBV has published and experience has shown that the publisher cannot deliver in time and in sufficient quantity.

@thomasaugsten Summary: We got testet on 3rd of August, checked definitely box9, scanned QR-Codes, test result by phone on August 13th, still no result in the app
I could send you reuslt document with lab identification.

Ok i think this is not necessary because we working close with the lab of the Bavarian Autobahnen together to connect them to qr code infrastructure

@thomasaugsten Sounds good, we were tested at Donautal Ost. Do you think we might eventually get our result by app?

When the lab is connected only new qr codes will work with the app. You should receive the result via normal mail and can submit your diagnoses keys via TAN after deleting your test.

@thomasaugsten It is a negative result. I wouldn't get a TAN for a negative result, would I?

We did a test at the Luxembourgian border (Markusberg), this is my 7th day now waiting, I'm skipping work because of waiting for results in the app. The most annoying thing is that it seems like I cannot do anything about it, I can maybe go back to the border and ask them?!

I assume you will never get the results in the App because a large numberoof laboraties still is Not connected to the Internet ;) Call the local Gesundheitsamt@Markusberg and ask them where and how to get the results.

@kira99

I wouldn't get a TAN for a negative result, would I?

This is correct, you won't. As you don't need to warn anyone in case of a negative result there is no need to share your keys, so you don't get a Tele-Tan 🙂.

For anyone else having issues use the Mein Laborergebnis app which is showing results fine.

For anyone else having issues use the Mein Laborergebnis app which is showing results fine.

@wintercounter While there is the app Mein Laborergebnis there are currently some articles in the media stating that not all laboratories are working together with that app. The result is that patients are waiting several days for their test results just to get the information that the app does not work with the specific laboratory.

You may try the app when your QR code is not working but when someone thinks they are infected with corona I would suggest not relying on that 3rd party app and contact your test laboratory instead.

Yes, we called them, that's how we got directed to that app. It took 2 days and 6 phone calls...

I had a similar situation to @ElenaChi:
My test results were apparently available online the following day via the lab's own testing portal (I only checked the 2nd day); however, to this day, my CWA displays the "Your result is not yet available" message, which is clearly false (I was indeed eventually able to get my test certificate off the lab's online portal). My result was negative, but imagine the situation if it had been positive:

I would've been unable to warn other app users (edit: through the app; didn't account for the hotline😅), which is the one thing the app should be able to do reliably.
_I can't stress enough how important fixing this issue is_, since it renders all other parts of the app essentially useless needlessly complicates the key upload process, and may also be related to https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-wishlist/issues/150.

I would've been unable to warn other app users, which is literally the one thing the app should be able to do reliably.

If you get a positive result via another way you can still call the tele-TAN hotline and get a code with which you can upload your keys to warn others 🙂.

Corona-Warn-App Open Source Team

Hi,
I have a problem with the Corona Warn App.
On 31.8. I have registered a corona test in the app via QR Code.
I have not received a result in the App until today. Through my family doctor I did, negative test result.

Now I have the following problem: The App shows that test data is being retrieved (see screenshot).
I want to go to my doctor today to have another test because I am showing symptoms again. But since I have no result in the CWA I cannot enter a new test!
What can I do? Reinstall the app? Reset the app? I am unsure.

I use a Nokia 7.2 (hmd global) with current Android (thanks to Android one program). The CWA is version: 1.3.1. about the known problems with field 9 and if the laboratory is connected I asked my family doctor afterwards (regarding the last test).

Greetings Torffeuer and thanks for the help

@Torffeuer It looks like you're experiencing https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-app-android/issues/1084

One thing which you could try is resetting the app data in CWA, that should not delete any of the collected keys as they are saved in the Google Exposure Notification Framework (ENF) and are only deleted once you uninstall the last ENF app: https://www.coronawarn.app/en/faq/#delete_random_ids

In the case that you reset the data in CWA your day counter will start from 0 again, but that's just a cosmetic issue which doesn't have an effect on actual functional aspects and can also be circumvented by following the steps described here if this is important for you.

Thanks, after reset the app Funktion is correct.

If you want I can share the result of the family doctor talk later

🔥 Hot Topic Update 🔥

We are discussing this issue on regular basis as its currently one of our high priority tasks.

The latest feedback is:

  • Many different parties are involved in improving the overall situation
  • The situation is improving a bit every day
  • This issue is responsible for ~30% of all negative feedback from App Store / Play Store
  • There is no quick fix or short term solution
  • All team/community members need to collect the relevant information from the bug reports like Name and location of the test center or laboratory so that TSI/RKI/SAP can work on improving the situation
  • Many non-technical issues like laboratories copying the 10C documents containing the QR code
  • A new GitHub issue was linked to the QR code topic: https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-documentation/issues/429

So would you like us to report here concrete examples of doctors or test centres here that give out a the sheet with the CWA QR code, which can be registered in the CWA but where a result is not received within a few days? I would have two such examples from a colleague and a relative but they are already several weeks old. If we come across a public social media post of someone with sufficient information, should we link to this?

I agree on the priority.

@MikeJayDee yes, any feedback is appreciated. I will make sure the information will get forwarded to the responsible people.

Thank you!

I noticed that the efficiency of the CWA appears to be deteriorating since the iOS 1.32 release 10 days ago (graph 10 on micb25’s dashboard. )

I hope this is a coincidence, but it did set me thinking about the relevance of question 9 on the 10C form shown above.
If a patient scans the qrcode into their app, aren’t they explicitly giving permission for it to be used in the app (particularly if an explanation is shown in the app before they scan)? So the question only hampers the process, for example when the health worker forgets to tick it denying the patient’s wish for the results to go to the app.

And if the lab puts the test-results into the app’s db but the patient has not given permission, then it is not linked to the patient and can be treated as anonymous data outside the patient’s jurisdiction.

I have heard from several acquaintances whose results were returned by snail mail and not the app, despite scanning the qrcode in themselves, implying that question 9 is hindering the app’s efficiency without any legal or other benefit.

Just another field feedback. My dad got tested 10/8/20, got the QR-Code (similar form as shown in KVB example by Thomas above but just the lower part). We scanned the QR code in his iOS Corona-Warn-App (iPhone 6s, iOS 14.0.1 with latest app version 1.3.2) the same day. Call from the doctor with results on Friday. Until today no update in the corona-wanrn-app. Test still in pending mode.

@myfear do you know / could you find out which lab conducted the tests? 🙂

As this seems to be information the CWA team is looking for:

  • All team/community members need to collect the relevant information from the bug reports like Name and location of the test center or laboratory so that TSI/RKI/SAP can work on improving the situation

@myfear do you know / could you find out which lab conducted the tests? 🙂

Yep. I'll know by tomorrow! Will follow up.

I'd be keen to hear (perhaps via the lab) whether his doctor had checked box 9 on the form shown above (or the equivalent on the OEGD form if privately insured).

IMHO it's superfluous while others see it as a problem. but haven't taken any action to correct the situation.

@svengabr I just got the following info via DM:

  • Test conducted on Friday (09.10) at ~11:30.
  • Result arrived today (12.10) via mail from the doctor at ~14:00.
  • App doesn't show the result yet.

Lab conducting the test: Bioscientia Labor Freiburg

@svengabr I received another report of a lab connection not working:

Das ist das Labor Moelbis (Mykologie Experten). Mache den Test immer am Flughafen in Leipzig und bisher hat das nie geklappt.

Labor Dortmund Leopoldstr., test processed on 20.10., results ready on same day.
Results not showing up in app as of today.

Got tested today in Testzentrum Fürstenfeldbruck. Their procedure is to send results via email.

I got a QR code, but they did not mention if it is for cwa (and I forgot to ask them).

@ndegendogo

I got a QR code, but they did not mention if it is for cwa (and I forgot to ask them).

Did you try to scan it with CWA and if so: did it accept the code?

@daimpi good question. I don't even know how to scan it with cwa. It is not printed on paper. It is on a website, they scanned it when they took the sample, and then sent me an email with the ID (just for reference, in case of any delay / need to involve their call center).

So, I guess this is not yet the cwa process?

@ndegendogo For the CWA process, you should receive the bottom half of the form shown on this website ("Infektionskette unterbrechen") at the test site: https://www.ladr.de/laborergebnisse-app-oder-webportal

@MikeJayDee No paperwork at the test center. They have a fully digitized process, very efficient; only it seems to be different from cwa, and not integrated with cwa.

They have promised results latest after 48 h via email (and from collegues I hear they are often < 24 h). And I got the 9-digit code only as fallback.

Just a question on the cwa process. Does cwa use a single QR code to retrieve the test result and to upload positive DEK, or does the lab send another QR code for a "positive" result?

I guess in theory they could also show a CWA QR code on their website. If you can see a QR code on their website that is linked to your test, you could try scanning it with the app - tap "Were you tested? Inform and Help"* -> "Continue" -> "Document with QR code".

The QR code is used to link the app to the test. It is single-use only. The rest is magic done in the background, so you can scan the QR code directly at the test centre, and you will then be able to retrieve the test result with your phone, and, in case it is positive, submit your keys without any further QR codes.

*PS: I don't think "Inform and Help" is the best description. "Get your test result fastest here" would receive more clicks.

No, I think these are simply two different and separate systems.

You give me the website of ladr.
But I have registered at Covid Test Bayern / eurofins (I guess eurofins is the lab? Or is it the provider of this registration service?)

I have their QR code only on my smartphone, so I cannot scan it. I got it at the end of the registration process for this test.

If they indeed send my results fast via email as they promise, I don't need cwa for this. Hopefully I am not positive. And, in case, I can still get a TeleTAN for the cwa DEK upload procedure.

Thanks a lot for your explanations.

The ladr website was just the first random website which had a picture of the CWA form with the QR code.

8CDB80C2-CE85-49A5-B022-5C061203F74B
Sooo - finally I detected the QR code also in their email (it was hidden in the security settings, because I don't load remote content by default).
So I tried now to scan it from the screen of my laptop, but it failed.
Either it is indeed a separate system. Or the scanning process really wants printed paper?

(I attach the error message, of course without the QR code)

Edit: no "CWA form" involved in the whole process. As I said, no paper. Registration at their website, confirmation email with the QR code. Thats it.

Tagesschau Article about the missing connection to Hospital Laboratories, they've done some research, maybe it helps.

Got my results meanwhile (via email), and luckily they are negative.

Still some questions arise:
1) Is there a reason why I need to scan this QR code? Why cannot I simply get a text field to provide it manually, in case this scanning process fails?
2) the error message should be improved. I cannot tell what exactly was wrong:
a) code was scanned correctly, but lab has not yet uploaded my results
b) code could not be scanned because of bad quality
c) code was scanned but is a different lab system, not supported by cwa

Hi everybody,
I got the test result via the app within 24 hours two weeks ago but recently, the app doesn't work anymore for the test result showing a sign indicating data retrieval while the app is freezing in this status.

... the app doesn't work anymore for the test result showing a sign indicating data retrieval while the app is freezing in this status.

What you are describing is listed in one of the other hot topics https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-app-android/issues/1084.

Thank you, Mike.
I came to learn that the variable necessary to receive the test result is
deleted on the server on day 21. They seem to be working on the issue.

Thanks again for your instant reply.

I did a test on Thursday (5th November) afternoon at my local doctor and got two different qr codes. One for cwa and one for the website https://www.mein-laborergebnis.de/. While the Website had information about the status of the test (reached laboratory on the late evening of 5th November) and the final result on the late evening of 6th November. CWA does not show any result and still waits for it on November 7th: "Your result is not yet available".
The lab is Synlab in Weiden (Oberpfalz) in Bavaria and is performing a huge number of tests for the south of Germany as far as i know.

Is this a mistake by the doctor, the lab or what is going wrong?

I have got my test result available but not in the CWA app. The app still says that the result is not yet available. I registered the code on 2.11.2020 in the app and got my result from the laboratory on 06.11.2020.The Laboratory is Bioscentia.

Test results do not show up in the CWA on both Android and IOs. Tests have been made by Ärztlicher Bereitschaftsdienst Hessen at Gesundheitsamt, Bessunger Str 121, Darmstadt. KVHessen has send one of two SMS on 17th November about test result from 16th, November, but CWA still has no test result today 20th November!

This suxx a lot as I learned someone at KVH has send the second SMS to a wrong mobile number.

Highly unprofessional IT that CWA does not show the results.

Please have also a look at this ticket on the wishlist. Of course, this is "no statistics, only anecdotical". But it shows part of the reasons why the fraction of people submitting their DEK keys is so low, and suggests an easy way to mitigate this fact.

  • E-Mail including QR-Code for CWA at 3 ->16 h after sampling

Dear @IndianaDschones,

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback. We will forward this information to the developers.

Best wishes,
DS

Note there is updated FAQ advice on "I get an error while scanning the QR code. What can I do?" https://www.coronawarn.app/en/faq/#qr_scan which refers back to this issue.

The FAQ article lists a link for an example of a correct CWA compatible testing form and it gives an e-mail address corona-warn-app.[email protected] to send in documents related to cases where scanning has not worked properly. It's best to read the full FAQ article before sending anything in.

You bring up a good point. I used a different laboratory (no qrcode) and also got my results back by entering my test ID in the Web. Doesn’t that mean that publicly accessible pseudonymous data was stored on a server, which I should have agreed to in advance?

translation of comment https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-documentation/issues/400#issuecomment-770740203 :
The Limbach Laboratory (Heidelberg) gives a QR code to the persons tested. However, this always points to the same URL (https://heidelberg.corona-ergebnis.de/), so it is completely unusable for the warning app (but of course you can't see this directly and it is not mentioned anywhere). Since corona-ergebnis.de is offered nationwide, I fear a nationwide problem. The retrieval there can therefore only be done manually and has miserable user guidance.

In addition, the linked website superfluously obtains data from US servers, does not even mention them in the data protection declarations and thus violates the DS-GVO.

All in all, after a year's experience with Corona, this is an extremely unsatisfactory state of affairs!

Why are labs not obliged to support the CWA properly? After all, they earn a lot of money with the tests.

@not-a-feature Thanks for the translation!

@stweil Danke fuer den Report.

Yes, but ... this is a form used by doctors when they send me to be tested.
Many people are tested without any doctor involved. Just think of people returning home from their journey.

@stweil Bitte Email an corona-warn-app.[email protected] schicken und den Vorfall melden!

Done now.

And none of the doctors involved in the tests which I saw up to now used a standardized form with a working QR code.

Just a small (anecdotical) feedback that it is indeed improving:

  • yesterday I got tested at Fürstenfeldbruck. They have meanwhile integrated connectivity to cwa, and it worked (in Oct 2020 this was different / not yet integrated).
  • sample taken at 08:45 / sample received in lab at 20:00
  • at 21:30 they sent me the QR code, which I scanned around 22:00
  • at 02:45 they sent me the result with their own infrastructure (email and SMS); I assume they uploaded result to cwa server at same time
  • cwa notified me around 5:00
  • lab is eurofins

@ndegendogo

It's good to hear that test result retrieval worked for you!

As you pointed out in https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-wishlist/issues/227#issuecomment-785393925 there is a two-device requirement if a lab sends a QR code electronically instead handing over a QR code on paper at the time of testing.

CWA can only take QR code input via a mobile device camera, there is no provision for passing a QR code to CWA from app to app. That is a gap in the process caused by the way the eurofins lab is passing on the QR code electronically.

Perhaps the CWA app could be enhanced to allow a QR code image to be given to the QR code input function electronically?

Not everybody will have immediate access to a second electronic device, to present a QR code to the CWA camera for scanning. It's OK of course if you have another mobile device, a laptop, a desktop or a printer, but if not then you are stuck!

but if not then you are stuck!

Exactly!

  • As of getting my testing results fast: specifically for eurofins, cwa will never be able to beat their times. They notify me actively as soon as the result is availabe. Whereas cwa has the anonymous philosophy and can only poll.
So the impact is not sooo serious in this case (but I don't know details of the workflow of other labs or test centers).
  • As for reporting a positive test to cwa / upload my keys: in this case I need the TeleTAN, with the overloaded hotline; and for sure we have a certain drop-out rate of users here; not everybody will have the patience to go through this in that situation

@ndegendogo Thanks for the feedback!
@MikeMcC399 @ndegendogo

Perhaps the CWA app could be enhanced to allow a QR code image to be given to the QR code input function electronically?

And manual HEX code entry. We will bring this topic up again internally.

I would like to add a process issue and solution that I did not find represented here:
It may solve the problem, that leads to currently 38% of CoronaWarnApp-Users NOT sharing their test results.
image

The form 10c / OEGD of the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung (KBV) does not take into consideration, that most PCR-Tests of infected pationts are carried out OUTSIDE the medical practice. This leads to a situation that consent is systematically not communicated on the form.
image

Potential Solution:
image

If there is anything wrong with my description, I would be glad to understand this. I have written this to KBV several times, but they either don't understand me or don't seem to take it seriously. This is completely incomprehensible to me, because on average 48 people die every single day because of this.

(Among these people, there may be one or two who really don't want to give their consent, but the likelihood of people using a warning app to NOT warn other people is pretty low, isn't it?)

Any further questions? Please do not hesitate to ask.

PS: Here the official requirement (by the Bundesregierung) , that people thinking that they might be infected are NOT allowed to enter the medical practises.
image

Mirroring what I've already said in https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-wishlist/issues/150#issuecomment-826052733 so that it doesn't get lost:

It may solve the problem, that leads to currently 38% of CoronaWarnApp-Users NOT sharing their test results.

The 38% of test results that are not share are already correctly arrived in the app, so the field on the formula 10c/OEGD was marked.
These 38% actively decided against sharing their test result, although they were able to.
See also this comment.

Thank you Ein-Tim. That does actually makes sense, bcause the consent on the form 10c/OEGD allows laboratories to pass the data on to the CWA. Failing to tick that box (by the med. assistant) would result in no data being passed through to the APP and therefore could not be charted by RKI.
That would mean, that the amount of people we lose by the doctor not ticking the consent box on 10c/OEGD , described in my post would have to be added on top of the 38%, (in terms of loss of efficiacy) correct?
In this respect, I would be interested in a quantification of how often this occurs. I have personally done training sessions of the Corona Warn App in 118 school classes in the district of Borken. (As part of an educational project about Corona) In about half of these, we were told of problems where the parents said that the CWA did not work because they could not scan the barcode. After enquiring, this was divided into 2 main causes:
1) the consent box was not ticked for reasons described above.
2) it was scanned with the wrong scanner.

(There were also some hardware related issues, but we did not follow up on those.)
Some parents later described that they had first tried to scan the barcode with the normal QR code reader. When that didn't work, they read the small print in the clarification, it says that they should scan with the camera function of the smartphone, so they opened the camera, but of course it doesn't work either. The form should really state that they should scan the barcode with the CWA.
I guess a large proportion of users drop out at this point, give up and think that the CWA is not functional.

The users who have overcome this problem then make the error described above, namely that they scan the barcode with the CWA, but the data were not transferred from the laboratory because the doctor's assistant failed to tick the consent box when taking the test. (Without the patient knowing this, because he assumes, because he has received the lower black and white information part of the form, that he has consented).
Here, too, the USER gets the impression that the CWA does not work.

We will not be able to record how often the first error (scanning with the wrong scanner) occurs, because the error message remains local (https://localhost/?041F94-66773ADE-09DB-45C7-BF73-3122FE7E4C30 --> Website not reachable, localhost has refused the connection, check the connection" This is what an error message looks like, for example). It would be helpful if there could be a note: "Please use the CWA to scan the barcode" but that probably is not possible?

It should be possible to estimate the frequency of the second error by evaluating how often a barcode was scanned with the CWA although no data was transmitted from the laboratory, minus those for which laboratory data was later supplied. (In order to exclude time lags as a cause).
This number indicates how many people tried unsuccessfully to retrieve a test result, thinking that they had consented to the transfer of data on the 10c/OEGD form. Is this correct? If so, can this data be requested from the RKI?

@annebeckmann

That would mean, that the amount of people we lose by the doctor not ticking the consent box on 10c/OEGD , described in my post would have to be added on top of the 38%, (in terms of loss of efficiacy) correct?

Yes, correct.

It would be helpful if there could be a note: "Please use the CWA to scan the barcode" but that probably is not possible?

I'm not sure wether this would be possible.
A related reuest is: https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-wishlist/issues/224

This number indicates how many people tried unsuccessfully to retrieve a test result, thinking that they had consented to the transfer of data on the 10c/OEGD form. Is this correct? If so, can this data be requested from the RKI?

A similar question was asked here & answered here.
Maybe the situation in the meantime changed with the data donation feature and the RKI can make an exact number of test result which were added to the app but never returned public?
Although with this it's not excluded that technical problems, etc. are responsible for the incident and to the unticked 10C/OEDG field.

the amount of people we lose by the doctor not ticking the consent box on 10c/OEGD , described in my post would have to be added on top of the 38%, (in terms of loss of efficiacy) correct?

Yes. The whole procedure was designed under time pressure and unfortunately has too many points of failures ...

It would be helpful if there could be a note: "Please use the CWA to scan the barcode" but that probably is not possible?

Usually QR codes encode the URL of a website, and a generic QR code scanning app will open this website. Same for the camera. The cwa solution was designed differently, they wanted to enforce that only cwa can meaningfully scan this code, for security and data privacy reasons. So they use 'localhost' plus a long number instead of a website URL. The QR code itself contains no hint to cwa. So the QR code scanning app can decode this number but cannot give any hints to the user how this QR code is meant to be used.

that since 28.07. test results cannot fetched through the app.

This means that the QR code does not work, or that the user does not receive a test result even though that the user informed the doctor or health agency multiple days ago.

Thanks!

Hi @olife-source, thanks for reporting here. Regarding the integration of freepass, can you report this case by mail to corona-warn-app.[email protected], please. Please provide a scan of the information sheet with the QR code as well as contact information of the doctor or test center where you received it. All non-essential personal data should be blacked out. We will then try to resolve QR code generation issues together with the involved parties.

Best wishes, DS

Corona-Warn-App Open Source Team
