Curriculum: Fix Security Roles contents tables so they don't contain actual content

Created on 24 Oct 2019  Â·  43Comments  Â·  Source: Techtonica/curriculum

Task: Rearrange the content in the first few sections of this outline to be more consistent with our other outlines.

https://github.com/Techtonica/curriculum/blob/main/security/web-security.md

  • See our template for more details about the purposes of each section.

  • Objectives and Specific Things To Teach sections should contain the objectives of the outline and the things the outline teaches, not what an apprentice will learn if they spend years becoming a security engineer. If you think the present material is valuable, move it into the lesson somewhere; otherwise just remove it.

  • Replace ###Objectives and Specific Things To Teach with relevant lists that summarize the outline itself, near the beginning of the outline, similar to a table of contents.

@Satyam3976 I have already share the new link in the comment above, have a look at that.

I'll submit the PR within an hour

Sure

hi @Satyam3976, as it has been over 6 weeks since you picked up this issue, I will make this issue available to others who would like to try solving this. I will leave your PR open, but whoever solves this PR first will get theirs merged.

is this resolved ? If not, I am interested in working on this issue . Please assign me @alodahl

Hi @m-code12, that would be great! Is the issue clear, or do you need more explanation? Essentially, whoever first wrote the outline used the outline sections the wrong way, and we would like it to be redone per the template guidelines.

This issue has been automatically marked as stale because it has not had recent activity. It will be closed if no further activity occurs. Thank you for your contributions.

@m-code12 are you still helping with this?

No
I am not sure about what to do.
You can close the issue.

@alodahl By replacing with relevant list do you mean a table with link to other topics in the security.md sort of thing?

Hi. It looks like there have been a few attempts to fix this issue. I am attending both WHC SF hackathons in Oct. I am interested in working on this issue.

@sanchibansal340 no need for a table. Like the template shows, ###Objectives and Specific Things To Teach should summarize what is to follow in the outline, rather than listing additional things to research, or whatever is happening there.

Got it @alodahl . Can I work on this issue and get back to you by EOD?

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, @sanchibansal340 , but I assigned the issue already. Thanks for offering to help!
Please consider one of these ToDo issues instead: https://github.com/Techtonica/curriculum/projects/2

Hi @talarsen , do you need help with git or GitHub? The file that needs work is here: https://github.com/Techtonica/curriculum/blob/main/security/web-security.md

The simplest way to work on the file would be to fork this repo, find the corresponding web-security file in your new forked (copied) repo, and click the pencil icon to make changes directly in your browser. Once you think it’s ready, you can look up how to make a pull request or I can help.

Thank you. I was able to find the correct file and I am working on it now.
I really appreciate your help.

.

  1. I've changed the "projected time" section to more specific timeframes
    with bullet points.
  2. The first link in the prerequisite section is broken.
  3. The rest of the lesson follows the format of the lesson template provide
and the issues seem to have already been fixed.
  4. In the lesson extension, the Insecure Labs link doesn't provide the
learner with information. It is unclear what the learner needs to do once
they click on the Insecure Lab link.

Thank you for the opportunity to work on this issue.
