attempt sudo startxfce4 from crosh
Looks like the croutonfreon.so is not ld_preloaded.
Why do you want to install xserver-xorg-legacy? I'd think installing the xorg target from crouton installer should do what you want (install a native xorg server).
@smibarber had to explicitly kill xserver-xorg-legacy for gnome in https://github.com/dnschneid/crouton/commit/2d4bf8969a006b30a6d11458d1f96f764fddc6c8
You should do the same.
We _could_ consider making crouton install a fake version of xserver-xorg-legacy just to make sure it never accidentally gets installed...
It's one of the default packages installed by any of the Kali metapackages. Uninstalling with apt does fix the issue but as it stands it appears that installing the any of the Kali tool sets will break your install.
Probably worth generating a fake xserver-xorg-legacy package, then, as long as nothing conflicts with it...
Hi Normola, did you get this fixed? I've been going round in circles trying to run Kali.
If I follow all the steps I get chroot freezing and have to restart.
Thanks for any advice :)
Hi McR1c0chet,
All I did (after performing a full install with apt-get kali-linux-all) was apt-get remove xserver-xorg-legacy. You can answer yes when it asks if you want to remove kali-linux-* as they are just meta packages and shouldn't actually uninstall any software.
Hi Normola, magic!! Thanks so much for the help.
Much Love
I ran into this issue when working on the changes for kodi. It seems that debian and kali releases are installing this package.
A quickfix hammer i found was to add "remove xserver-xorg-legacy" to the target file.
FYI, looking through the log, it looks like the package xserver-xorg-legacy was installed along with a bunch of xserver-xorg packages. right after "Compiling /usr/local/lib/croutonfreon.so"
@dnschneid i looked up the concept of debian dummy packages, looks straightforward enough.
Where would this be added? the release file?
is there an example of another dummy package in crouton that i can get inspiration from?
You should be able to get away with using the install_dummy command in the x11-common target.
well that's even easier! ;)
i'll see if i can get something working tonight
This problem happens to startgnome as well.
