Core: Owntracks how to retrieve endpoint

Created on 10 Dec 2018  路  12Comments  路  Source: home-assistant/core

Home Assistant release with the issue: 0.83.3

Operating environment (Hass.io/Docker/Windows/etc.): Docker

Component/platform: Owntracks

Description of problem:
In commit #18759 there is a braking change introduced. Current documentation simply states: <url given to you when setting up the integration>. But I already had it setup. In the documentation it is not mentioned how to setup the integration, or when you just added the owntracks: to retrieve the webhook link afterwards.

When in the integrations you open Owntracks it only states: This integration does not have devices.
I thought I need to remove the integration and add it again. And only then I saw the url I need.

Imho it needs a way to be able to retrieve the link again or describe on the component page how it should be done. Add also the screenshot of the commit to the page so that users know what link to expect.

this should have better explanation on the documentation

You can delete the integration (using the trash can icon on the top right) and set it up again to get a new URL.

Does this new url mean that I have to change all connected devices just to know the url?

Deleting mean you must change it on all devices. The "This integration does not have devices" message will also show after reconfiguration. You can find the webhook_id setting in the "/.storage/core.config_entries" file under owntracks.

Documentation needs updates... Just struggled to get this working after configuration changes and not being able to know the changed Owntracks URL endpoint.

I found the parts to make up the URL, but things were not clear until I removed the manual configuration and ran the Integration Configuration. BUT, you are only shown the resulting configuration once, I can't seem to find a way to get the endpoint URL after the configuration dialog is dismissed.

Also, I haven't looked into the source code to figure this out, the documentation is not clear how to configure things like GPS accuracy and zone mappings.

@balloobbot Nothing has changed

Still nothing changed. Is it possible to show the url somewhere around the owntracks implementation?

Still a problem :)

Here's hoping the bot will pick this up and reopen.
