Conemu: No obvious way to get back the title bar

Created on 31 Oct 2016  路  9Comments  路  Source: Maximus5/ConEmu

At some point I was able to disable the title bar of the conemu window. It was a long time ago and I can't remember what option I changed, and despite having been through all of the settings pages multiple times, I can't find anything that will give me back the normal window title bar. Any pointers would be appreciated, and if I might make a suggestion... perhaps make it easier to find?

If you'll re-read my question, you'll note I was asking for help. A polite response could have been to say something like "_It's in the settings on page X. You need to click Y. Not sure if you noticed, but there's a search bar that will find this fairly quickly too. Also, what version are you using? Newer versions have improved the settings in this area_"

Instead, your response neglected to actually answer my question or acknowledge that I don't have your context or specific domain knowledge; instead you snarkily suggested I use the search feature but failed to actually offer any relevant help, and patronizingly offered a two-step guide to using the search bar, including with links to the site, implying that I should read the documentation, and that you certainly aren't interested in actually pointing me in the right direction.

Regarding your second response:

1) Ok great, that has no bearing on this. I was unaware that the version I was using was significantly out of date.

2) Let me quote my original question:

Note the bolded text. What else should I have mentioned?

3) Ok, well gee whiz, sorry about that. I didn't realise my version was so far out of date that the settings will have changed significantly enough to address this as an issue.

  1. Open Settings dialog
  2. Use Search field to find the "title".

What can be easier??

Ok, that was a slightly more patronizing response than I hoped for. May I suggest that when a query comes in, perhaps give the benefit of the doubt to the person enquiring, ask yourself if your proposed solution is possibly obvious enough that maybe they already tried it, and hold off on insta-closing the issue until you're sure that your assumptions are correct? Also, "RTFM" is a useful response when the manual is clear, well-structured, and the information being requested would have been found with a minor amount of effort. It is _not_ a polite response when the information being requested is non-obvious, difficult to find and related to an interface that is quite complex and difficult to navigate.

Anyway, I digress. I am never one to disparage someone else's freely-shared, open source efforts, and I know I have certainly benefited greatly from your software, so you have my gratitude for that. Your response to my enquiry makes me more inclined to just be blunt though, so here goes.

First of all, yes, I did use the search feature before posting this issue. I searched for multiple different terms that seemed relevant, and on top of that I went through every property page multiple times and double checked every option I could see, including hovering over tooltips to see what they do. I also went to the website and searched for an answer using both the search box and by browsing through the different sections and reading the FAQ sections.

Settings that do not resolve the issue:

Documentation does not provide clarification:

Now that you can see that I'm not just being lazy and trying to waste your time, perhaps you could point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

If you posted this information when you created the issue, then the answer would be absolutely different: https://conemu.github.io/en/OldBuild.html

  1. The documentation reflects actual build or tries to do that.
  2. If the user asks obvious question without description what they've tried already, what do you think the author can suppose?
  3. Again. Old Build! Even if there was a bug, why user can't suppose it was fixed long ago?

I've now updated, and as you can see, the options are the same.

My responses were neither impolite nor helpless.
The template of the new issue asks from user important information and when user just ignores this petition I'm a little disappointed.

As for your current request, I have no idea if you updated your installation or if you suffer from the problem on current version.
I don't think I need to look for the problem in the old build (restore sources or install it) because it is deprecated.

As for your bold text, it's ambiguous. And that usually means the user overlooked the option.

Perhaps "User screen transparency"?

I'm sorry, I should have read the template more thoroughly. I guess I skipped it because I wasn't reporting a bug, but rather just asking a question. I would have asked elsewhere but there isn't really anywhere else to ask a question if one is stuck.

Thankyou for pointing me at the transparency option; it appears to have resolved the issue- checking the "user screen" transparency checkbox appears to remove the titlebar. It might be worth adding a note about this somewhere in the documentation, or maybe a tooltip or something.

This thread helped me. I looked through all the settings and did not find an obvious one that changed the title bar, hiding or showing. I used "title" in the search and because this option doesn't mention title , the option did not appear. I am using the latest version of Cmdr and still relied on Google to find the answer ..... which was here :D
