Conda-forge.github.io: SciPy tutorial proposal

Created on 17 Feb 2017  Â·  21Comments  Â·  Source: conda-forge/conda-forge.github.io

Hi folks, I'm going to be putting in a proposal to teach a tutorial at SciPy this year on package building. I'm hoping to cover everything, including setup.py, wheels, binary compatibility, conda-build, and of course, conda-forge. Would anyone like to also join in on that proposal?

I would like to submit this proposal by Friday, Feb 24.

@msarahan this is awesome! You can count me in.

I'm interested, though I'll admit I'm not that up-to-date on the inner working of conda-forge. I do have an example of a repo that auto-builds wheels and conda packages on tagging, and will be working on switching a couple of repos that currently do their own building to ones that copy built packages from conda-forge to a separate channel.

I'd be happy to help -- If I can go this year anyway...

Also happy to help out.

@msarahan -- do you need any help with preparing the proposal?

@mwcraig the draft is at https://docs.google.com/document/d/12bjVvbEbGMuMZSaeqRGwA5IdlLyIQBOOnoFvtr1XQQA/edit?usp=sharing

All comments and improvements welcome. Please let me know what kind of involvement you'd like to have - whether you want to present some particular topic, or just generally walk around and help. I'm wary of trying to cover too much ground and having people not actually doing enough.

Thanks for the comments so far. Who specifically wants to be a presenter? I think we have more than enough people involved here. It's now a question of how names get put on the application, and who needs to provide me with a bio.

I'd be happy to present part of it, though I'm probably about 70% chance
that I can go at all (unless I decide to go on my own dime anyway....) So
you may not want to count on me.

I'm willing to be listed as a presenter or to be an extra pair of hands.

Maybe we should schedule a call to talk about this. Should I set up a
doodle?

schedule a call to talk about this

:+1:

Consider including @thewtex and myself

Cc: @opadron

Since I cannot use GitHub handle with Doodle here is the link: http://doodle.com/poll/58hxcnqgqbhc8vkq

Let me know if anyone wants to change the dates/time to include more people.

@msarahan I am waiting on your input in the doodle to close it

argh, sorry. Doing it now.

Added myself to the doodle. Happy to help anyway I can. :+1:

I will close the doodle tomorrow morning and post the result here.

OK. The best date seems to be March, 10 at 15:00 Eastern Time. Mark your calendars. (I guess we can use the same Google Hangout from conda-forge meetings, is that OK @msarahan?)

conda-forge hangout is fine. Calendar is marked.

Link to that hangout is https://hangouts.google.com/call/v5olhwzpfzgzpoq5i3wthjpqpie

We'll have our meeting shortly. Those that are interested please follow the URL above.

Guessing this is ok to close as this year's SciPy conference is passed.
