Community-edition: Rambox CE 0.7.5 - Gmail - Couldn't sign you in - This browser or app may not be secure.

Created on 23 Sep 2020  路  6Comments  路  Source: ramboxapp/community-edition

<!-- Please describe here your issue and steps to reproduce it. -->

ISSUE:

After changing Gmail password, when attempting to sign in again, the screen skips past the password entry and displays the following:

Couldn't sign you in
This browser or app may not be secure. Learn more

Try using a different browser. If you鈥檙e already using a supported browser, you can refresh your screen and try again to sign in.

Learn More link says:

Sign in with a supported browser

To help protect your account, Google doesn鈥檛 let you sign in from some browsers. Google might stop sign-ins from browsers that:

Don鈥檛 support JavaScript or have JavaScript turned off
Have unsecure or unsupported extensions added
Are being controlled through software automation rather than a human
Are embedded in a different application

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Sign into Gmail via Rambox CE 0.7.5
  2. Change Gmail password via Chrome (external to Rambox, unsure if issue also occurs if password is changed within Rambox)
  3. Reload Gmail tab in Rambox
  4. Attempt to sign into Gmail again via Rambox

DISCUSSION:

This appears to be related to a Google security issue. It seems to have previously been an issue with 0.7.2, but it was marked resolved. It looks like it may be back or not fully resolved.
I did verify I had the most current version of Rambox CE using the "check for updates" item in the Help menu.

STEPS TO RESOLVE:

I tried overriding the user agent with several options, including my current one from Chrome(Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/85.0.4183.121 Safari/537.36), which did not resolve the issue; and my current one from Firefox (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:75.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/75.0), which did.

I tried using version 0.7.6 and I get the same error

This was fixed in 0.7.6 and it should work in most cases. But we could reproduce your issue in 0.7.6, and we are working on a fix.

Will be released the fix in next version coming soon.
