Community-committee: Initiative #507 — Preparing questions for annual survey

Created on 4 Oct 2019  ·  5Comments  ·  Source: nodejs/community-committee

Hi folks… based on discussions from last meeting #537, it was the rather popular heading to try to land a few question in the coming survey that can help us better navigate a path of bootstrapping an initiative that is appropriate with its intentions.

  • [x] Figure out the timeline — ie cutoff to add questions

  • [x] Put together questions

Please feel free to also contribute to the doc

    • [x] [Draft read-only](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eb_S_cPs__PXTonS4FwykWUtO14Z1_MSL6CdK6s6nZo/edit?usp=sharing)

Update — Final revision took place during an open zoom session Nov11 1-2 pm CT Recording to be presented in the next Community Committee meeting.

  • [x] Revise the questions

It boils down to the most critical data we need, and that is a single two-part question:
Do you identify as having a dis-/ability as defined under the [Americans with Disabilities Act](https://adata.org/faq/what-definition-disability-under-ada)?

▢ Yes, Cognitive ▢ Yes, Emotional
▢ Yes, Hearing ▢ Yes, Mental
▢ Yes, Physical ▢ Yes, Visual
    ▢ Yes, Self Identify: __________________________________

    ▢ No

    ▢ Prefer not to answer

If yes, does your dis-/ability affect how you work participate in the NodeJS community?

◯ Yes ◯ No ◯ Prefer not to say

Input on timeline for submitting survey questions and suggestions for improving absolutely sincerely appreciated at this point per tight frame outlined in last weeks meeting — thanks ❤️

@bnb Thanks for pointing to the question that specifically relates to perception regarding Node.js specific collaboration mediums — see doc.

For context:

How satisfied are you with the level of accessibility and accommodations
available through official tools and collaboration mediums employed by
Node.js communities you participate or engage with, rate:

    ◯ 😔 ◯ 😟 ◯ 😐 ◯ 😊 ◯ 🤩

We're not sure how to best tackle this one, and not just because we are trying to limit the burden for those taking the survey. This question in our opinion affects various members across the project, who may be best positioned to decide if they want:

  • Split into more specific groups
  • Rephrase it more clearly to anyone who regularly uses any of the Node.js online collaboration channels.

Hi folks, I just updated the op with links for the Review doc which include comments on what we are trying to gauge. Please feel free to contribute on the review document directly.

I'd like to thank everyone for helping steer what is effectively the first concrete effort for this initiative ❤️
