Have you got any ideas how to fix it without breaking compatibility with older versions of PhpUnit?

@leglesslizard You are testing in WordPress, but you're using the old wp-browser. Is that on purpose, why? The new version should work. Change your composer.json file to:

I don't use PHP 7 much, so I haven't had an opportunity to reproduce this issue yet.
Also there are too many things called Test in Codeception, so initially I thought that it affects Unit test format, files ending with Test.php, but actually it should be affecting all other test formats.

I have changed my composer.json from

to

and worked! That means that Codeception is incompatible with current version for anyone looking for the answer.

Not sure if this is the exact same issue as I am on CodeCeption 3.1.2. The issue surfaced when using php-mock/php-mock-phpunit. Here is the link to the issue: https://github.com/php-mock/php-mock-phpunit/issues/46.

From the error messages, it seems like an incompatibility between CodeCeption and PHPUnit, but it only surfaces when I have phpmock installed. I am using PHPUnit 8.5 and had no issues with CodeCeption and PHPUnit before installing PHPMock. Removing PHPMock solves the direct problem at hand - but I want to use PHPMock!
