CockroachDB is not a good name. You have a great product going on here. I think the name is going to be a big hindrance for adoption.
I cannot suggest my team to evaluate CockroachDB for our use-cases without people flinching their face hearing the name. I'd like people to evaluate the DB for its merits, but that becomes difficult if they associate the product with low-quality, even before the evaluation because of the name.
There are some people complaining about the name...

That's a funny name for a database. At least you'll know that whoever uses it does not use it for its buzzword value.

I assume it's called this because a cockroach can supposedly survive a nuclear attack. But it's a bad name. It does not invoke good feelings.

Change the name. I get the joke, but it has an emotionally negative connotation that bosses will hate.

As for the name, which I agree is problematic as is, how about EntomoDB for entomos (insect)?
Edit: It's not problematic if success is not an objective. But if it is, choosing a name with such strong established negative connotations is not wise.
RoachDB !
CouchDB - you're lazy dev, MySQL - selfish, Oracle - too much Matrix...
I really like CocroachDB name. Sounds pretty badass 馃槑
yeah we know what happened to python the language too! Thanks for considering us for adoption but changing the name is not an option. Thanks
@vivekmenezes Not an option? Is it prohibited by the laws of physics? I think not. I wait years to check this db given its questionable name. I'm ashamed to even ask my boss to evaluate this database given the name.
