Chats currently do not mark misspelled words. Would be great if it did!

+1
Agreed, this feature would be very useful.
This is really needed.
This was also asked for in #7019 and I missed it when I created this issue.
Anyway, I wonder how to get anyones attention on this. The Electron framework already supports spell checking.
Hi all, thanks for the issue! Unfortunately it looks like Electron doesn't support spellchecking without using a third-party library (https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/3211), which we are very wary of doing since such a library would be able to read all inputted text. We don't have space on our plate for the security evaluation this would need, but we'd like to implement this and are tracking the issue for when it becomes more feasible.
I would like to critique your choice of using Electron, while it makes cross-platform development easier it also inhibits basic native stuff like spell checking, accessibility, and general speediness. But that's not relevant to this topic. ;)
More on topic: There is already code that indicate support for spell checking in the Electron source. I was surprised that your response was to say it is unavailable. Have I misunderstood its usage? Or is it maybe some private API?
It looks like the code you linked to tokenizes input words, but doesn't actually spellcheck them. Third party electron spellcheckers provide themselves to the browser window, and it may be that that code is used to pass words off to the providers. See electron/electron#3211, electron/electron#3210, and electron/electron#3189 for more details
@buoyad if you're worried about the security thing then you may want to use this basic spellchecker.
would be great to have a solution for this. relaying on automated spell checking too heavily
Can this be true?
@NiklasBr, sadly, only US English will be supported if that PR is approved. We'll add more languages in the future, of course.
is spell checking on the roadmap anywhere or did it get shut down for good?
It鈥檚 still on our roadmap.
Thanks for the update @adamjspooner. Any insight into how far down on the map it might be?
