Keybase GUI Version: 1.0.21-20170413113755+766e240

Keybase says I have a chat message waiting for me from one of my contacts, however the app is stuck at the "securing..." screen that is present when I select a contact. It does not load any message history for any contacts/conversations.

Sorry about this! Can you run keybase log send from the terminal and report the log ID here?

I tried running keybase log send from the keybase shell, but it gives me the following error:
keybaseerror

I tried it a few times, both as admin and as a regular user, and it always times out.

are you behind a proxy?

I am not behind a proxy. I do have noscript and privacy badger installed on my browser; I have no idea if that makes any difference?

bug: Loading a chat message hangs at "securing..."
log id: 10250c11446afd21f53dc01c
os: OSX El Capitan
app: GUI

description:

  • Receiving a ^chat message^ from a third party. Native OSX app hangs on user/thirdparty chat tab, displays 'securing' as original report describes.
  • this appears to be a GUI bug, can confirm I have zero problems reading using CLI to read/send messages via
    ^$ keybase chat read^ etc.

how to repeat:

  • GUI indicates I have incoming.
  • click on icon, opens up GUI application with incoming message from third party
  • hangs, message displayed "securing".

what I expect:

  • when third party sends secure message, message is displayed

notes:

  • not behind proxy
  • has not happened before.
  • managed to send/receive messages at prior time
  • last message prior, was an attachment (maybe of some use)
  • tried to send a message (while securing message displayed), cannot send message.

I just thought I should mention that I restarted and this issue disappeared for me.

interesting... I killed the application, restarted the application and like @erose1337 the issue disappeared. The point I would like to make is the method to reproduce the problem I reported:

a) Leave the application going as I log out.
b) Reboot the system and the error appeared.

At the end of the day I'll try these two steps to see if logging out of sys without explicitly killing Kb is the source. -- PR

thanks for the update. @mmaxim is on the case...

@maxtaco

here's my observations:

  • no problem re-authentication after re-boot.
  • problems with the gui loading chat.. when opening with ^low bandwidth^
  • when bandwidth was good this problem did not present itself.

Q. Is problem occurring because of bandwidth constraints of the client?

I believe this issue is resolved but the fix isn't released yet.

I'm on Arch Linux, updated to the latest keybase-bin (keybase-bin 1.0.34_20171019160102+799e7007a-1) yesterday. Since then loading chat messages also hangs at "securing…". Restarting the computer, the app or killing the app (and other keybase processes) didn't change anything.

When using the command line, keybase also hangs after entering keybase chat ls, keybase chat lsur, keybase chat read and so on.

@maxtaco I tried to send log files (keybase log send), however, after entering YES I can enter ENTER again and again. The log files are not send.

EDIT 10/20/17:
I seem to have fixed this by entering keybase pgp update --all.

Also encountering this issue. Unable to send logs due to "Failed to search journal ACL: Operation not supported".

Using keybase pgp update --all had no effect.

Corrected the log sending. (Permissions issues with zfs acls).

I am able to use keybase chat to view chats. Not the GUI though.

No longer encountering this issue with 1.0.40-20180127033950.76a4b90c9
