Cinnamon: Feature Request: Migrate Cinnamon to Wayland Display Server fully

Created on 22 Jan 2018  ·  7Comments  ·  Source: linuxmint/cinnamon

I would like Cinnamon to move from Xorg to Wayland fully such as KDE are doing with its desktop environment and if you accept this request then apps like steam would use the xorg compatibility like xwayland to run on cinnamon.

I can understand why you'd lock it, I don't understand why you'd close it.
That to me looks like the feature was added, but it was not. When locked and opened you can still use it for status updates.

Why is the linked issue closed if Cinnamon doesn't support Wayland yet?

I got tried of receiving worthless spam comments, we know it exists and don't need reminding.

"Closed" on GitHub, though often functionaly similar to "fixed" status known from serious issue trackers, semantically make complete different thing. Your call if you're going to immediately close any "noted" feature request or leave them open til stable release, especially when you are supplementing your system with tags.

Second one is clearer to others though, so you'll have less work with dupes. 🙂

Maybe closed, because no Wayland support planned and Cinnamon will stay on Xorg

I know the maintainers don't need reminding, yet this is worth noting the following article: “X.Org is now pretty much an ex-org: Maintainer declares the open-source windowing system largely abandoned”.
