Cerebro: Can't change the hotkey

On Ubuntu 16.10 and I can not change the hotkey, I can select the text but backspace or just trying the new key binding straight has no effect.

I was having issues with this too on Mac OS. After changing the keys for both 'Input Sources' and 'Spotlight' to something else, I was still not able to choose Cmd+Space as they key in cerebro.

I found that if you restart cerebro after making the changes to the system shortcuts, then you can select Cmd+Space. So you should try restarting Cerebro as this worked for me.

@CrashyBang there are few limitations now. First, hotkey that you try to bind should not be used by other applications (i.e. on MacOS you have to unbind Spotlight if you want to set Cerebro to the same key). Another is that hotkey should contain at least one of alt, ctrl or cmd (on mac) keys.

Can you confirm that it still doesn't work?

I am having trouble with this as well. I am trying to change the key binding to ⌘ + ;, and can't find any global bindings that match, but Cerebro won't let me use those keys.

Confirm. I have the same issue on Ubuntu 16.10. Cerebro doesn't change the hotkey although it's free.

Hey @KELiON how hard would it be to offer a CLI flag to toggle the Cerebro window so that users can setup a gloabl hotkey using there system keybinding tool.

I believe rofi used to try and provide a keybinding manager to but eventually realised it was easier to let user set up there own system hotkey?

Thoughts?

@CrashyBang hey! What OS do you use? On Mac and Windows you can use cerebro:// URL protocol to open window. For example on Mac OS run in terminal cerebro://search?term=hello to open Cerebro window with hello query

I am curretly using the AppImage on Ubuntu 16.10 any ideas on how I would get that working?

@CrashyBang on Linux it could be tricky, but I'll try to find a way and reach you back

Hey @KELiON no stress just trying to think of alternatives that may make things a bit easier :)

I just tested it out as well in Ubuntu 16.04 (unity) and first there's no preference bar on top, so i had to change it by running preferences inside it.

And there's no possible way of changing the keys no matter what I try would be awesome to change to win key + space like mac.

Services part is also empty

PS: the project is looking very good if we could remap the keys would be usable

Checking in as another Mac user that can't bind to Command+Space to replace spotlight. Per the Alfred instructions, I have not only disabled the spotlight shortcut, but also changed its mapping before disabling it:

And the same thing for input sources switching:

Same issue on Elementary OS ( ubuntu )

Same thing on Mac OS Sierra.

Mac OS 1.11.6

After change default hot key ctrl+Space to any other, I can' t change it back to ctrl+Space.

My hero! (Confirmed: this workaround works for me)

I'll try to find the issue, but I afraid it is something related to electron code, not Cerebro(

Hi I'm using LinuxMint and I noticed that i cand bind a certain command to a key for example. Only the Key Super L (windows key). but i can not figured out How to open by a command the cerebro windows. Do you know How to do this on linux? Thank you very much

@Igua95 I'm not sure, but probably you should first find a way to remap command to something, that exists in linux, i.e. something like shift+control+alt and use it as a hotkey.

Same problem here on MacOs. Is it possible to go manually change a configuration to something else. ^+space is the selection key in emacs and makes it very problematic to use.

@davidecerri is it your first start of application? Did you try to restart it? If so and you still can't remap, what key do you try to set? Can you attach screenrecording if possible?

Thanks for the reply. It was first start of the application. Restarting it fixed the problem.

On windows, I can't set any hotkey with Windows (Command) key + other button.
It does allow to set Shift + Command + something, but after that hotkey does not work at all.

My goal is to set Windows + E (which is bound to "Open Explorer" by default in Windows, but I need it to open Cerebro).

am on FC29 and I noticed a slightly different issue..am able to remap the hotkey to SUPER+space,

but it seems to WORK only on chrome ,vscode and other electron apps,
and does NOT work in gnome native apps like gedit, libreoffice or the gnome desktop itself

In Linux is only change the file ~/.config/Cerebro/config.json and change the attribute hotkey
