Yes, 2.0+ is only available through Composer, GitHub and https://carbonfields.net/release-archive/.

@atanas-angelov-dev I'm using roots/bedrock. I tried the composer plugin version, and things are just breaking, most of it is missing library or autoloader stuff. Had to fallback to ACF.

There is a special step involved in order to have Bedrock support (or any other setup which moves vendor/ outside of the public root):
