Expected result:
Address and QR code should be visible.

Reproduces how often:
100%

Brave Version

Node.js: 7.9.0
Update Channel: Release
OS Platform: macOS
OS Release: 17.2.0
OS Architecture: x64

Reproducible on current live release:
Yes

Additional Information

  • The user tested BTC, ETH, BAT, and LTC. All failed to generate an address.
  • Turning Brave Payments off, and then back on, did not resolve the issue.
  • Renaming ~/Library/Application Support/brave, and allowing a new folder to be created, did resolve the issue.

We copied the seed terms from the working wallet, restored the old ~/Library/Application Support/brave directory, and attempted to restore the wallet with the seed terms. The restore button didn't appear to do anything.

This has been happening to me for over a month. I'd like to transfer Bat but none of the currency options are displaying a wallet address or qr code. I'm currently using 0.19.122 Release channel and it's been happening in previous releases as well. Here's another user on Reddit reporting the same thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/BATProject/comments/7lubrs/brave_add_funds_no_wallet_address/

The only two extensions I have installed are 1password and metamask.

I've seen this happen when a user is trying to create a wallet while we have a server issue. Although once the server issue is corrected I would expect the wallet addresses to be able to be created, however depending on the Brave version maybe that's not the case with older versions. wdyt @evq? cc @kjozwiak

@sjferwerda what's your OS? if you don't currently have any funds (which it sounds like you don't), I can help you get a fresh wallet which should resolve the issue of your addresses not displaying.

@LaurenWags I'm on MacOS High Sierra. Any help would be much appreciated. Very early supporter of Brave/BAT and it's ironic that I can't even use the payment system. Let me know if you need any specific info?

@sjferwerda Here are some steps you can take to get a fresh (empty) wallet - again, this assumes you don't have funds in your current wallet (just re-iterating for any other users who come across this):

  1. Close Brave.
  2. Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support
  3. Make a copy of your brave folder (you can call it whatever you want - I like brave-backup, this is just a precaution)
  4. Open up a terminal
  5. copy/paste this into the terminal and hit enter: mkdir ~/brave-ledger-backup
  6. then copy/paste this into the terminal and hit enter: mv ~/Library/Application\ Support/brave/ledger* ~/brave-ledger-backup
  7. then copy/paste this into the terminal and hit enter: LEDGER_VERBOSE=true /Applications/Brave.app/Contents/MacOS/Brave
  8. Then Brave will open.
  9. You will see information in the terminal, I鈥檇 say let this run for 5-10 minutes (this is when your BAT wallet is being created)
  10. Close/Reopen Brave (either manually reopen or you can use the command in step 7)
  11. You should be able to go to about:preferences#payments and open 'Add Funds' and see an address/QR code for each currency.
  12. Lastly, go to the gear icon to open Advanced Settings and back up your wallet. Keep these words somewhere safe in case your computer is lost, damaged, etc.

@LaurenWags that worked perfectly. Thanks so much!

great! glad to hear @sjferwerda - thanks for letting me know.

@LaurenWags I'm on MacOS High Sierra as well. This did the trick!

Great! Thanks @sethrt6 馃槃
