Did you search for similar issues before submitting this one?
Yes. There might be a duplicate floating around somewhere, but I can't find it.
Describe the issue you encountered:
I often open new tabs by command-clicking links. Sometimes, I try to switch to one of the new tabs by clicking on them, but the tab doesn't switch. It stays in the current tab. A workaround is to open a new tab and close it (probably resets the tab state). I've been seeing this problem intermittently since 0.15.x.
Platform (Win7, 8, 10? macOS? Linux distro?):
macOS 10.12.x
Brave Version (revision SHA):
0.16.9
Steps to reproduce:
Actual result:
The tab doesn't switch.
Expected result:
The tab should switch when clicked on.
Will the steps above reproduce in a fresh profile? If not what other info can be added?
Not sure.
Is this an issue in the currently released version?
Yes, 0.16.9.
Can this issue be consistently reproduced?
No. It only happens sometimes.
Extra QA steps:
1.
2.
3.
Screenshot if needed:
None.
Any related issues:
None.
I ran in to this once on windows 10 also, a couple of days ago 😅
Same error in the browser-level console as #9083. Might be related.

not sure what other info could be useful, I notice that when you click the tab it shows the preview of the tab you're trying to switch to, but once you move your cursor off the tab, it switches back, possibly something to do with how it renders the preview?
So far, I have not encountered this problem in 0.17.x.
I've definitely had this happen to me before. I believe I've had it happen with some version of 0.17.x (although, I believe the bug may have been recently fixed with https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/pull/9687)
For steps to reproduce, I always had the problem happen after I closed a tab
+1 from community https://community.brave.com/t/issue-where-you-cant-click-on-the-next-tab-to-proceed/4335/4
+1 from me as well. I have faced this twice on some 0.17.x release but still not sure what the STR is to reliably reproduce.
https://community.brave.com/t/0-17-13-buggy-cant-switch-tabs/4421/2?u=suguru
Updated to 0.17.13 today, on Windows 10 64-bit.
Having trouble getting another tab to re-open, it will give a faded preview when I left-click on the tab, but won't open or refresh, or anything. Meanwhile I am still able to click on and use any of my pinned tabs. The non-pinned tabs will not pin. Brave will not close with the X at top right, resorted to killing with Task Manager.
Back onto 0.16.9 to do this post, as 0.17.13 would not open the feedback option.
...
Update: Have cleared all history and cache. 0.17.3 seems to be behaving now.
Update2: Nope, still playing up. Back to 0.16.9
Similar report on community https://community.brave.com/t/can-not-click-other-tabs/4444/3
I experienced a weird bug where changing the tab set from 20 to 100 tabs caused all tabs in 3 tab set to become unusable. Can't reproduce this but just happened once.
cc: @NejcZdovc is this caused due to the tab being moved into Redux?
The same thing happened to me yesterday @sriram
I don't think so. I already experienced this tab switching problems in 0.16, where we didn't have redux for Tabs. Just this morning I saw this problem again. Active tab status is lost when I closed a tab and I needed to click on a different one to get status back. Also sometimes I can't switch to another tab. No STR, no errors and it's not happening a lot.
Another report from #9863 by @Miyurz
I opened almost 25 tabs and then as I was closing some of them, the browser froze and won't let me do anything. It was a complete halt and I had to quit the browser for it to work again.
Adding milestone as there has been several reports on this
Update: Experienced dead tabs (not able to switch/select) when the device wakes up from sleep. Have to quit the app and restart to get back all the tabs to load pages
Maybe related: #9083
Note that in the first recording I was clicking on the tabs but I hadn't selected to show the click action:
Pressing the close button didn't close, I had to close by right clicking. At least when I opened all the previous tabs were restored, which didn't happen when the browser crashed a few days ago.
The same issue happened again with only one tab out of 4. The affected tab won't reload or clone.
Then it got worse! All tabs wouldn't close, and I couldn't clone them or detach them.
Closing and reopening the browser fixed the issue:
Just experienced the 'dead tabs' issue with this setup and 7 tabs open:
Brave 0.17.13
rev f7242c7
Muon 4.1.7
libchromiumcontent 59.0.3071.109
V8 5.9.211.38
Node.js 7.9.0
Update Channel dev
os.platform win32
os.release 6.1.7601
os.arch x64
Closing and re-opening browser and everything is OK again.
Just to add : closing browser directly did not work, had to right-click on task-bar icon and Close Window.
I also had about:history open in one of the tabs.
Just happened the second time today, lost some important tabs. I'm switching back to Firefox until there is a release with progress on this issue to test out.
Maybe related: #10038
i have also same problem on version 0.18.23
I have the same problem - it occurs several times a day. I have to close Brave completely and reopen it. And occasionally, that doesn't work - I have to use Windows Task Manager to close Brave.
The previous version of Brave worked a lot better.

This happens to me ALL the time as well. I have to close the browser approximately every other hour. I have lots of tabs open. Usually in two windows. I have youtube, facebook and lots of other tabs open. Perhaps around 20 of them. After a while, one of the tabs become unresponsive. It have not been inactive for long. I can't click it and I can't close it. After a while some of the other tabs also do the same. Until I'm forced to restart the browser. I can't exit the browser normally with the close button in the top left corner. I have to right click on the taskbar and close.
This has happened now on the two latest versions consistently. On several machines, win7 and win10.
Its getting quite intolerable.
I had a hunch it was related to having two windows.
This might not have anything to do with multiple windows at all. I tried to keep the tabs to a minimum today. Just youtube.com, binance.com. Before the first freez I had one window open. Youtube playing and some other tabs. When I paused youtube and came back after 10 minutes, another tab was frozen. I believe it was banance.com. After a few more minutes 90% of the tabs was frozen. Had to restart.
Next round I just vent for 3 tabs with binance.com on each tab. After 3 minutes of switching back and forth, one of the tabs froze. A short while after another one. Had to restart the browser.
So, to me it does not seem to have anything to do with how many windows. Neither youtube pausing or not. I can't say it does not have an impact, but it's not the only issue at least.
I just ran into this in Mac OS 0.18.23. I was unable to switch tabs, open a new tab, or open a new window. The browser-level console had a lot of 'Unchecked runtime.lastError while running guestViewInternal.destroyGuest: Unknown error.' errors but not sure if it was related.
I only had 1 window with a few tabs open.
+1 .. I just had this happen to me. I was able to switch between 5 tabs just fine, and then I opened a 6th, and now I can no longer change tabs. I also cannot quit Brave! I press cmd-Q, and see the Brave file menu highlight, as the key command is triggering the quit brave menu item... However, nothing happens. Inspecting the OS X Dock, the application does not think it is stuck as it does not read force quit or anything.
I can still interact with the web page on the currently stuck tab... I can click on links and go to different pages, however if I type in a url in the url bar, it does not seem to register my hitting "return", so it never goes to a new url that I type.
Pretty much the same behavior as @patrick99e99 is describing, but in Linux, with CTRL+W to close tabs.

Having the same problem too (Win10). Sometimes it is so bad that the problem reappears so quickly after restarting Brave that I still cannot visit the desired tab until restarting once more.
It seems that #10640 is supposed to fix this problem (thank you bbondy!). Is there a way for us to use this version already now, should we test it?
Perhaps a good opportunity to learn how to compile Brave :-).
This problem is fixed in the latest beta update 0.18.24 (https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/releases/tag/v0.18.24dev).
Happened once on 0.18.26 when performing cookie test on samy.pl/evercookie. Had two tabs Gmail and Evercookie, was not able to switch to evercookie tab but showed preview. No console errors. However haven't been able to reproduce it again. Tried multiple times with same profile and new profile doesn't repro.
Still happening frequently for me on 0.18.25 on pinned tabs. I just get a preview of the frozen tab.
Still happening for me on 0.18.30 :-(
Also still happens on 0.18.32.
In previous 'fixed' versions, Brave would also stop responding to menu actions whenever tab-switching became impossible (preventing clean-quitting), but in 0.18.32 I've been able to quit and restart nicely when tab-switching fails.
Hmm a thought, maybe the session-restore feature will propagate the bug into fixed versions? That is, we should close all windows and tabs, restart, and the problem is gone? Just a guess, probably wrong.

HAVE TO BE FIXED. I can't keep restarting the browser four times a day
when it freezes up.

Is this issue still reproduced only with existing profiles?
happened today on 0.19.12. i accidentally started dragging a tab and then after that i was unable to switch tabs
Should we reopen or open a new issue?
@luixxiul, this issue still appears with a fresh profile. Created a fresh profile yesterday to test this and it happened once so far.
Usually the tabs stop responding when doing several tab-related things in quick succession. Today it was when pinning a tab and opening a new tab within a fraction of second. Other times it happened after closing several tabs with middle-mouse on the tab while also selecting tabs with left-mouse. Or right after reordering (pinned) tabs.
Perhaps the underlying issue is a race condition somehow, and therefore hard to reproduce reliably? It's even hard to pinpoint the precise steps that leads to a specific case.
I'd say we reopen this issue, because the symptoms are very similar as before, even if there are multiple intertwined problems at play.
I experienced this only when #11028 happened.
Still happens in 0.19.37.
Not only when #11028 happens, because I can still use many other tabs now, but some I can't.
Still happens in 0.19.53
I've had enough, so I'm uninstalling/reinstalling. A pity I will lose my site preferences.
Uninstall wasn't complete,. manually deleted remaining folders.
Reinstall worked well. Gave it sufficient testing. No more problem.
When I say "no more problem", that was the case for a short while.
Still happens in 0.19.70 .... but I see another recent thread that says "will be fixed shortly".
I'm having this issue continuously on Ubuntu 17.10
@deonblaauw Which version of Brave are you using?
I'm not sure, how do you check?
