Boto3: Why is the project named boto?

This isn't a programming question so it doesn't belong on stackoverflow. So I thought I would ask it here.

I was curios about the origins of the project name. Why is it called Boto?

Sorry for the non-bug, I didn't know where else to ask this trivial question.

It was named after the fresh water dolphin native to the Amazon river. I wanted something short, unusual, and with at least some kind of connection to Amazon. Boto seemed to fit the bill 8^)

I've always wondered this myself.

Is that for real or just a suspicion?

I have a strong feeling its real!

Just noticed the contributor tag. Nice! :D

I understand that boto is a dolphin, but why is this lib named after a dolphin?

I guess the name of this lib might have just been lost to history, like PHP and SQL. Each have stories related to the names but both stories and definitions have been disputed.

because its for amazon (which is also a large forest) and boto dolphins swim navigate the forest ecosystems with ease, of which boto also allows you to navigate the amazon ecosystem with ease. (allegedly, jk guys haha i love boto:P )

I can easily see why it was named this.

Oh yeah, I get it. But was it intentional? It sounds likely, but I was hoping for info from the project's lead or founder or something.

Awesome, thank you!!

Something to remember, too, is that MySQL has a Dolphin as a mascot. Back in the day, MySQL was _THE_ database solution. This could be an amazonian homage to that.

As for why MySQL used a dolphin for its logo:
"We're proud to present the new MySQL logo - a jumping dolphin - symbolizing the speed, power, precision and good nature of the MySQL database and community."

Curiosity: in Amazon, there's an indigenous legend that says that on full moon nights the boto transforms into a man to seduce women and gets them pregnant.

Wow @liarqueiroz that is very unexpected, Brazilian culture is the best! So interesting!
