Bleachbit: Edit/remove the Recent Document List entry

Created on 27 Feb 2017  路  4Comments  路  Source: bleachbit/bleachbit

Over at Winapp2, we have been talking about removing entries that reset settings, task bar, quick access, etc to their default values, mostly because it doesn't make a lot of sense to have a user set a setting then have Winapp2 reset it back to default.

I notice there is a entry for BleachBit cleaner that is under Windows Explorer called Recent Documents List that keeps resetting my quick access back to default. I think we should either edit it so it doesn't keep resetting it or remove it entirely if it doesn't do anything else.

I support this proposal. BleachBit deleted my pinned locations from the Windows Explorer taskbar icon when I used the Recent Documents List entry (I'm using Windows 10). The discussion has been around since 2014, but it always got postponed:

Is there a way to clean the recently used list from Windows Explorer taskbar icon without deleting the pinned locations (jump list)? I already tried to whitelist the CustomDestinations folder and/or the Windows Explorer file in the AutomaticDestinations folder, but it either reset everything to default or didn't clean anything at all.

CCleaner is able to do this, but I haven't found out how they are doing this.

Files in the AutomaticDestinations folder contain both pinned items and recent items. CCleaner clears only recent items by editing these files.

If you run CCleaner and then open these files in hex, you can see CCleaner putting its own info in there.

@cfbao Thanks for your answer. So it's technically not possible to do this with BleachBit at the moment as it only allows to remove files and is not able to edit files (if I didn't miss anything in the CleanerML documentation)?

AFAIK, that's correct.
