Bitcoin: Release schedule for 0.20.0

Created on 10 Nov 2019  路  2Comments  路  Source: bitcoin/bitcoin

Here is a proposed release schedule for 0.20.0, the next major release of Bitcoin Core. Like for previous major releases I've aimed for a release 6 months after the last (#15940).

2020-03-01 :heavy_check_mark:

  • Open Transifex translations for 0.20
  • Soft translation string freeze (no large or unnecessary string changes until release)
  • Finalize and close translations for 0.18

2020-03-15 :heavy_check_mark:

  • Feature freeze (bug fixes only until release)
  • Translation string freeze (no more source language changes until release)

2020-04-01 :heavy_check_mark:

  • Split off 0.20 branch from master
  • Start RC cycle, tag and release 0.20.0rc1
  • Start merging for 0.21 on master branch

2020-06-03 :construction:

  • Release 0.20.0 final (aim)

If any specific dates or timeframes are a problem for you, let me know.

After discussion on IRC I've bumped the expected release date for 0.20.0 with one month, extending the rc phase to allow for more testing (as possibly, less people will be available to do so), but leaving the other deadlines in place.
There might be further changes to the schedule depending on developments.

0.20.0 was just tagged, nothing left to do here
