Azure-docs: Branding guidelines in docs say logo should be 215x215 but tooltip on page says 48x48 or 50x50

Created on 26 Jun 2020  Â·  9Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs

In Azure, when editing the Branding for an application, the tooltip beside the logo says it should be 48x48 or 50x50 and that it should be transparent.

The docs here says it should be 215x215 and it's recommended it's not transparent.

I'm pretty sure the tooltip in Azure said 215x215 when I created the application yesterday though, so maybe there's two different tooltips for the same page floating around?

Also, what does: 215 x 215 pixels but with central image dimensions of 94 x 94 pixels mean? If the logo in the 215x215 image is 94x94 it looks weird and too small compared to other apps I've authorized with (like MS Teams).

@mol Thank you for your feedback . We will investigate and update the thread.

@mol I trieed to find the same but could not . I tried checking the tooltip for around 20 applications in my test directory but I see 215x215 . It might be possible it was temporary change which was caught and rectified by the backend.

If you still see 48x48 on the tooltip aain , please do take a screenshot , timestamp and azure subscription ID and let us know by email on azcommunity[at]microsoft[dot]com . We can help you with alternative support options then.

About your second question , which document are you referring to when you say "215 x 215 pixels but with central image dimensions of 94 x 94 pixels mean" . Even I am not sure what it means. If you can provide me the reference doc , I can check more for you .

Thank you.

Thanks for looking into this. I think I have figured some of it out.

This is the tooltip when viewing my app under 'App registrations'. As you can see it has the tooltip that says the size should be small and transparent. The size of the logo here is actually 215x215 and Azure did not complain:
AppRegistrationBranding

This is the tooltip when viewing the same app but under 'Enterprise applications'. That's the same page you're showing. Note how the logo background looks weird because it's transparent. It's the same logo as uploaded under 'App registrations' (where you're supposed to put a very small logo. If you do that btw it is resized horribly of course). Also, you can't actually upload the logo on this page :):
EnterpriseAppProperties

And finally this is a page in the Azure docs that's talking about the 215 / 94 pixel sizes that are confusing. Maybe it's talking about a third "branding" page though but I'm 99% sure I saw this in the tooltip (the first one above) when I first created the app a few days ago. Maybe it's different on the creation of an app page?

@mol thank you for the additional information , I will have this checked internally and will update you by early next week.

Checking with product team to find out about tooltips. In my test I am seeing the 215x215 so need to find out where the tooltip comes from and why there could be a different one as shown in screenshot above.

Also checking with the authors of the referenced /develop article about the 94x94 pixels and what that means. I submitted a PR (referenced above) to remove the 94x94 unless there is a reason that I am not aware of that it should be there. In my view it seems like 215x215 pixels is enough guidance and it is up to developer on how best to compose the logo image.

@mol We have an internal bug with engineering for this and this will be fixed soon.

Thank you for your patience with us.

No problem, thanks for the update. Of course this isn't really an issue either, I just wanted to let you guys know there was a mistake :)

@mol. Thank you for catching this. We appreciate your input . At this point we will close this issue here and once the internal bug is fixed me or @kenwith will update the thread.
