Azure-docs: Regions available for Azure Files authentication to Active directory feature

Created on 11 Mar 2020  Â·  10Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs

We use Australia (East) for our Storage account and azure file instance.. While trying to setup the authentication for the storage account to AD we get an error when using the Join-AzStorageAccountForAuth command.
"Unable to generate a Kerberos key for storage account. This might be because the 'Azure Files Authentication with Active Directory' feature is not yet available in location (australiaeast).

Can i get an idea of what location i can use to setup (we are in australia).

@mikewillodea , Thank you for your feedback. We will investigate and get back to you shortly.

@mikewillodea Try to build a fresh VM [use a free laptop!] and join it to the AD-DS that you are trying to use for the Azure Files Auth. If that works, then you have a different problem.

@sujayvsarma i Don’t actually want to join the storage account to AD-DS just active directory I believe there is a significant difference in this new feature if I’m not wrong.?

Let me first quote from the document you linked to:

The join-AzStorageAccountForAuth cmdlet will perform the equivalent of an offline domain join on behalf of the indicated storage account.

So if you try the domain-join on your own, you will know what the problem is.

Ok Sujay I will try that and see how I go.

@mikewillodea Azure Files AD authentication (preview) is available in most public regions.
Azure Files AD authentication is not available in:

West US
West US 2
East US
East US 2
West Europe
North Europe

@SumanthMarigowda-MSFT How is that adding value to the question or try to resolve the customer's problem?

Thanks I’ve managed to get my region working now.

@mikewillodea :) What got it fixed ?
