Work is currently underway to enable Python 3 support and we are aiming to do this in mutliple stages aiming for HRW and Update Management in the first stage, followed by enabling this for cloud jobs, and hope to have this live at the beginning of Q1 in calendar year 2020.

@rphoon Thanks for the comment. We are actively investigating on your ask and will get back to you shortly with an update.

I would also like to know this...

As per this feedback from feedback forum, the Azure Automation product team has triaged and noted the feedback and will consider it if resourcing allows.

@bobbytreed Do you have any latest update(s) with regards to this ?

@rphoon Looks like currently we don't have any further updates. However, for updates, I would recommend you to follow the feedback link that was provided in my above comment. Hope this helps! Closing this azure-docs GitHub issue here for now. If there are further questions regarding this matter, please reply and we will gladly continue the discussion.

Hello @KrishnaG-MSFT are there any news on python 3 on Azure Automation?

any update?

Great news

Any updates on python 3?

No new updates, still planned as communicated back in October and we don't have any specific dates to share at this time.

@MGoedtel, @KrishnaG-MSFT Do you have an update or specific date on Python3 in Runbooks? (Python2 is EOL since 2.5 months now)

BTW: I tried to look around in GitHub for a repository where there might be an actual "implementation" issue for this but couldn't find any.

Please provide an update, as per earlier update it is supposed to live at the beginning of Q1 in the calendar year 2020

Till the time, request you to keep this issue open.

Support for Python 3 in AA is work in progress & we are targeting May end as the ETA. Should not go beyond that. Due to COVID 19 & deployment freeze the ETA's have gone ahead.

@jaspkaur28, @KrishnaG-MSFT any ticket for this implementation you can provide so we can track it directly?

@jaspkaur28 / @KrishnaG-MSFT - any updates on this?

So here we are end of July. Python 2 is really old.
Either Azure Automation will soon be deprecated, or Microsoft doesn't pay attention to its community.

Latest update: Private preview planned by mid-August and public preview by mid-September. Cc: @jaspkaur28

Is there a sign up for private preview?

Sure. Please send an email to [email protected] with the subject "ATTN: Krishna - GitHub - 37403". I will assist you offline over the email.

@KrishnaG-MSFT, what is the latest update in regards to this?

@usrme : Support for Python 3 hybrid jobs is available as a Private Preview. Please reach out to [email protected] as mentioned above by @KrishnaG-MSFT .
Python3 Cloud jobs is still work in progress. It’s a bit delayed due to some major changes that we are doing to the underlying technology stack supporting Py3 jobs . The changes are critical requiring significant validation at each step. The new ETA we are targeting for a private preview of cloud jobs would be Sept-End.

Hi @jaspkaur28 is there any update on this?

@umarhussain88 : We are planning to announce Private Preview for Python 3 cloud jobs by next week . Initially it would be supported in West Central US and Japan East and incrementally move to other regions . Please reach out to [email protected] by next week for the Private Preview details.

We will be closing this issue as this azure-docs repository deals about feedback related to particular Azure document page (like correcting doc bugs, doc enhancements, product issues related to wrong doc instructions, etc.) but if there are further questions regarding the Private Preview matter that's discussed above, please do let us know and we will gladly continue the discussion without re-opening the issue.

@umarhussain88 We have announced a Private Preview for Py3 cloud jobs, currently limited to 2 regions only : West Central US and Japan East. Please reach out to [email protected] if your interested in participating in the Private Preview. Also if you are looking for Py3 support to be made available in a region of your choice, do let us know & we will enable that region for you. We would want to gather some feedback from customers through this Private Preview program and plan improvements accordingly. We are targetting early Q1 CY2021 for a Public Preview and mid Q1 CY2021 as a GA timeline.

Please include us in this private preview.
