Azure-docs: Tutorial broken. Fails on Step 3 of Create an AKS Cluster

Created on 12 Aug 2019  Â·  8Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs

Following all steps. I selected the 1st option to create a new service principal. Won't pass validation.

{"code":"InvalidTemplateDeployment","message":"The template deployment 'microsoft.aks-20190811194924' is not valid according to the validation procedure. The tracking id is 'e69d57be-2f54-4035-80c6-fc5acda2c290'. See inner errors for details. Please see https://aka.ms/arm-deploy for usage details.","details":[{"code":"ServicePrincipalNotFound","message":"Provisioning of resource(s) for container service myAKSCluster in resource group jcDevOps failed. Message: {\n \"code\": \"ServicePrincipalNotFound\",\n \"message\": \"Internal server error\"\n }. Details: "}]}

Again, if any presets or configurations are required for tutorial, they should be explicitly called out.

Any help here?
Thanks.

@jcledezma Thanks for the feedback. We are checking on this and will update you shortly.

@jcledezma I have followed the steps in the document and tried deploying the AKS Cluster with new Service principal. I also faced the same error.

As the error was "ServicePrincipalNotFound", in a duplicate tab I checked if the service principal is created under Microsoft - App registrations (Azure Active Directory -> App registrations) and found that it is created as expected.

Then I ignored the error and again clicked on Validate on the previous tab and the validation passed and the cluster creation was successful.

Service Principal takes some time to be created and reflected, that is the reason why it was throwing validation failed error on the first try.

Hi, yes. That worked. Thank you.

2 points to highlight.
1) The Azure portal shouldn't give an error... it should say.... 'wait, creating principal' etc...
2) IF that is NOT fixed by Azure, then you should insert a note in your tutorial, stating that validation will fail... because such and such... and that one has to wait a few minutes... and Validate again.

Of course, I had no idea. So had tried to recreate from the start... instead of just hitting Validate again.

Thanks.
