Azure-docs: osFamily=5 does not contain 4.7.2!

Created on 17 Jul 2019  Â·  14Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs

Hi,

I am using "Family 5 releases" with "WA-GUEST-OS-5.32_201906-01", but when I login in to the machine I don't see that 4.7.2 is installed although I see that mentioned that it should be supported!

Can you please help? I don't know what's going on.

Thanks,
Shady

I meant that I see that 4.7.2 is not installed

@shadySirhan Thank you for your feedback . We will investigate and update the thread further.

@shadySirhan just to confirm, you are connecting to a Cloud Services VM correct? Not a standard IaaS virtual machine

Thanks for your fast reply.
Actually I am not sure I understand what you mean by correctly! I am connecting to the machine via Azure portal with Remote desktop, and then checked which dotNet versions are installed on that machine.

@shadySirhan what I mean is the difference between a cloud service and a standard VM.

For a cloud service, to connect to the VM, you will navigate to Cloud Services (Classic) in the portal. Then you select Roles and Instances and then select the VM you want to RDP to. For example, the worker role.

Here is a doc on enabling RDP for Cloud Services and how to connect:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cloud-services/cloud-services-role-enable-remote-desktop-new-portal

Is this what you are doing? Else, if you are just connecting to a standard VM, you would go to the portal, select Virtual Machines, then select the instance you want to connect to and download the RDP file

image

If you are using the second option above, that is an IaaS virtual machine. And the doc you are referencing in this issue is for cloud services and does not apply to standard IaaS virtual machines which is why you do not see 4.7.2 installed

image

Yes, I am using the first option (Cloud Services VM), but I still don't see the 4.7.2.

@shadySirhan thanks for that! I created a new Cloud Service and logged into the machine to check as well. As you mentioned, I also do not see .NET 4.7.2

I do see .NET 4.6 though

@raiye @mmccrory can one of you look further into this? Is this expected and we need to update the doc? Or should 4.7.2 be installed and we need to work with engineering to get it corrected?

And just FYI, here is the system info I grabbed while inside the machine

image

@shadySirhan as a work around, you should still be able to install the version of .NET you want you would just need to do it manually while we look into this further.

CC @cynthn

@v-erswar to look into this

FYI: In process of checking with the build team.

OK, just got word back that WS16 doesn’t have 4.7.2 installed.

Thanks @raiye and @v-erswar

I will update the doc then and remove that to avoid further confusion.

@shadySirhan I submitted a PR to correct the doc. Thank you for pointing this out. As mentioned above, we did not expect to have 4.7.2 installed so it was a simple doc mistake.

Once the PR merges the changes will go live after a few hours. I will close this but if you have additional questions just let me know.

Thanks for your help!

Just to make sure I understand, there is no plans to support 4.7.2 for osFamily=5 right?

Thanks,
Shady

@shadySirhan no plans at the moment to have it pre-installed. You can still install manually if you need it though.
