We can't commit to a GA timeline, but I would say optimistically that we should have some news within the next few months.

When it does go GA will it support getting the current version and not require the specific version in the name?

GA will be for the existing support with version pinning. On top of that, we will preview rotation handling. We expect that to be a much shorter preview.
