I downloaded the Service Fabric Runtime, however the Windows Defender on my Windows 10 has considered it as a virus, and cannot be restored!

Hi folks sorry I missed this - we heard of this from a bunch of folks last week and worked with the Defender team to get this resolved before the week ended. Please let me know if you're still facing this issue.

Thanks for the feedback! We are currently investigating and will update you shortly.

@dkkapur I know that, If we are quite sure about the authenticity of the source from where you are downloading the file, then we can set an exception in the antivirus software, in this case Windows Defender.
Can you please provide your insights/confirm that this is fine to do in this case? Thanks. :)

I downloaded it from this page (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=839354), the windows defender should not consider it as a virus, and it prevents me allowing the app!

@dkkapur Did you get a chance to take a look at this customer issue? Thanks.

@diab-mossa Service Fabric Runtime is automatically downloaded and installed during cluster creation. The only reason you should need to manually install it is if the cluster does not have any access to the internet. Is that the case here?

I tried to download it as well using Chrome just to check it does get flagged by windows defender which is something we should look into and ideally find a way to avoid that. It is likely getting flagged as it is a .cab file. You can of course work around it as @Karishma-Tiwari-MSFT described. So we appreciate you bringing this up so we can take a look but it shouldn't be blocking you from getting setup.

Also, is the PC you are trying to download it connected to a company? Your company might have stricter policies in place blocking the download. In which case you need to work with your networking team.

Regardless, try creating a cluster and it should get installed by default. Or, you can using the links in this doc

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/service-fabric/service-fabric-get-started

The exact link is https://www.microsoft.com/web/handlers/webpi.ashx?command=getinstallerredirect&appid=MicrosoftAzure-ServiceFabric-CoreSDK which will use Windows Platform installer to get all the needed packages

@diab-mossa Did that help? Let me know.

We will now close this issue. If there are further questions regarding this matter, please tag me in a comment. I will reopen it and we will gladly continue the discussion.

@diab-mossa This issue is resolved. The file should download now without defender issues.
