Azure-docs: Concerned

Created on 20 Mar 2019  Â·  10Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs

Hi! I've previously had a chance to refresh a couple articles in Azure maps and no longer have any responsibilities with it. I was reviewing the overall documentation and have to say that I'm a bit concerned about one of the examples I've found. To be clear it is not any page I've ever worked on.

On the main: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/azure-maps/ page I now see this:

Example

I don't think that's funny. Regardless of one's point of view or political perspective, that makes light of the difficult national security environment in which we find ourselves.

Who owns that site? (It's not Docs?) How can it be changed to something more reasonable in a business-facing customer page no less.

@jinzh-azureiot - @dsk-2015 recommended I loop you in here.

Talked to @KingdomOfEnds offline. He was concerned with the type of cargo allowed on the trucks. It's actually a product feature. This should clarify things: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/maps/route/getroutedirections#vehicleloadtype

FYI @v-musehg

Thanks, I don't mean to raise a fuss being relatively new here and all. Still, I could see how that could be misconstrued. Would strongly recommend changing that specific example to something more appropriate. Right, left, up, down, purple, orange, whatever. The growing instability of our national security situation is bad for everyone. Since some of our clients include the U.S. Government (and others) it seems wise to be prudent about that.

@KingdomOfEnds, thanks for your concern. As @dsk-2015 said it is a product feature, but still we will look into it and talk to the marketing team about the change since they own this page.

Thanks @walsehgal - I appreciate it. I think it's wise to make those kinds of alterations. Furthermore, it's probably not too difficult to do from an engineering standpoint. Cheers!

yes, its not.

Not sure why SeaTac was used as the destination in combination with the explosive materials. Will sync with the product marketing team as they own that page.

As noted above, explosive cargo is a valid filter type and very important in the fleet management industry.

I've suggest changing the cargo type to flammable material travelling from Bellevue to King County Airport. (i.e. Fuel). This will take the 520 bridge rather than the I90 because flammable material can’t go through the I90 tunnels, so this demonstrates the benefit this service provides as most other mapping platforms will take you down the I90.

@rbrundritt - Great thanks for the clarification. I'm relatively new so I don't really understand all of the complex industry-specific terminology/classification systems. I now understand that the use of labels in the cargo and transportation industry covers a lot of categories. I hope that this thread helps to clarify some of the examples. Thanks again.
