Azure-docs: Existing email recipients for alert rules

Created on 19 Mar 2019  Â·  6Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs

Will existing alert rules with 'Email the subscription's owners, contributors and readers' enabled be automatically changed to only the monitoring readers and contributors, or will this change only apply to new alert rules?

The upcoming change will only affect Smart Detection rules. Other alert rules (existing or new) will not be affected by this change.

@harelbr Thanks for the information!

@seandonovancvx In addition to @harelbr's comment above, I would also like to echo that this change would be applicable to both Smart Detection rules that already exist as of today, as well as to those provisioned for newer Application Insights resources.

Hence, you will need to configure the _Monitoring Reader_ and _Monitoring Contributor_ roles in the subscription to have all the relevant people added so that the email notifications from Smart Detection are sent to relevant users only.

Hope this addresses your question!

@BhargaviAnnadevara-MSFT It is clear to me now. Thanks!

@seandonovancvx Glad to know, and thank you for reaching out!

We will now proceed to close this thread as resolved, but if there are any further questions regarding the documentation, please tag me in your reply and we will be happy to continue the conversation.

What about alerts that have a specific email address to send to? Will it send it to that email address? Currenty alerts are happening and I'm never getting the alerts.

The mentioned change only affects the configuration pertaining to the default ARM roles that should be getting the emails.
If a Smart Detection rule is configured to send an email to a specific email address, then this shouldn't be affected by the change and you should continue getting email notifications to that address.

Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] with more details, like the type of the alerts you're not getting notifications for and how their config looks like, so I can look deeper into this.
