Azure-docs: tempdb for Gen2

Created on 11 Mar 2019  Â·  12Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs

The docs say "399 GB per DW100. Therefore at DWU1000, tempdb is sized to 3.99 TB." But I think that's only correct for gen1. My Gen2 notes say 2TB of tempdb space per node (which is per DW500c). I'm not 100% sure my notes are accurate, so I would confirm that with someone on the DW team. Then please do update the docs with the correct Gen2 number.

@furmangg Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have assigned the issue to the content author @sachinpMSFT to review and update as appropriate.

@Mike-Ubezzi-MSFT can you assign this to me? I'm taking ownership of this doc. Currently following up with Engineering to get the info to update the doc with.

@Mike-Ubezzi-MSFT Please assign to @mlee3gsd. Thank you.

@mlee3gsd @julieMSFT @happynicolle This doc never was updated. It has Gen1 and Gen2 figures but for TempDB, the figure is for Gen1. Can you please let me know what the value should be and I will update the doc? Thanks!

@furmangg Hi, Thank you again for bring this to our attention. I will open a ticket to track getting this change made. I will notify you once this has been completed. I will proceed with closing out this Git Issue, but please feel free to respond should you need anything further. Thanks!

@Mike-Ubezzi-MSFT @julieMSFT I still don’t see the doc reflecting the Gen2 tempdb size. What’s the status of that ticket you opened?

@julieMSFT This document lacks a Gen2 reference for tempdb sizing, like some of the other category items. Please let me know what the value(s) should be and I can update this document?

@Mike-Ubezzi-MSFT Please assign @mlee3gsd

Gen1 and Gen2 sizes haven't changed. I'm confused by his question as he states that his notes has DWU500 at 2TB and we state that it is DW100 is 399GB (rounding to 400GB). If we multiply that by 10, you would get 3.99TB or for DWU 500 he mentioned, you would have half that (roughly 2TB rounded). Is he questioning the .01TB off from his rounding?

@mlee3gsd this is Greg Galloway. I think you clarified it. I wasn’t sure if my notes were right and the calculations were the same for Gen2 or not. Thanks for confirming they are. I see the docs have now been updated to mention DWU1000c so that solves the issue.
