Using Azure calculator, a protected instance is a multiple of 500Gb. In this article you state that its a server that has been configured to backup to Azure. In Azure Backup Report App (Power BI) we can see Protected instances = 60 where backup items = 51 (for example). Can you please update this page to reflect what microsoft's definition of an instance is, because it is very confusing at the moment ( I hope I am not the only one). If it is multiples of 500Gb please explain why we sometimes get a ".5" in the report eg "Total Protected Instances =47.5" (it should be 48 surely?).

@artilbur Thanks for the feedback! We are currently investigating and will update you shortly.
Detailed pricing information is found @ https://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/pricing/details/backup/
So, a server with <50GB is considered 0.5 instance and so correspondingly would be charged 0.5*10 = 5$ towards protected instance fee.
thanks @trinadhkotturu .

Thanks for the feedback...All good except I believe the article lacks explanation of what a protected Instance is by merely stating "its a server that has been configured to backup to Azure" and no mention of the 50G and 500Gb breakdowns. I have spent considerable time trying to figure it all out. Perhaps its by design to keep us guessing. lol
