Azure-docs: Link to API Reference is invalid

Created on 6 Jul 2018  Â·  11Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs

http://docs.microsofttranslator.com/speech-translate.html does not open in any browser I tried.

The response page for that URL just prints:

Invalid URL
The requested URL "[no URL]", is invalid.

@polarapfel Thanks for the feedback! I have assigned the issue to the content author to investigate further and update the document as appropriate.

@v-jaswel Hi, 'API reference' is a broken link, can you please check it and update the document as necessary? Thanks a lot!

This link from the first paragraph also comes back with that same faulty response page: http://docs.microsofttranslator.com/text-translate.html#!/default/get_Speak

I did a quick search for what could cause that error.

It seems like this is caused by a faulty Akamai CDN setup. The published hostname in the Akamai configuration is not recognized by Akamai.

This is how it resolves for me.

EDIT (I confused the host name affected):

docs.microsofttranslator.com is an alias for docs.microsoft.com.
docs.microsoft.com is an alias for docs.microsoft.com.edgekey.net.
docs.microsoft.com.edgekey.net is an alias for e8858.g.akamaiedge.net.
e8858.g.akamaiedge.net has address 23.218.123.163

Whoever owns the Akamai configuration for docs.microsofttranslator.com needs to fix this ASAP please. This is not an isolated issue with just this documentation page. Can you please escalate this? Thanks!

@polarapfel Thanks for the research, I will contact to the author directly.

@YutongTie-MSFT @v-jaswel I edited my above response.

This shows what's wrong here. Apparently, someone tried to move docs.microsofttranslator.com to docs.microsoft.com. What they did is CNAME docs.microsofttranslator.com to docs.microsoft.com which also already is a CNAME (with an existing Akamai CDN configuration).

Now, when resolving docs.microsofttranslator.com, the first CNAME level gets lost to Akamai and Akamai cannot map URLs from docs.microsofttranslator.com to a valid Akamai CDN mapping because it can map docs.microsoft.com only once.

Unfortunate (and unnecessary) mistake! Hope this gets fixed soon! Thanks!

I've updated that API link in the Node.js Python, and C# quickstarts, and those PRs have merged. I've updated it in the Java quickstart as well, but I'm waiting on review of the PR.

@v-jaswel Thanks for the update.
