Azure-devops-docs: variable as environment name not working

when i try doing this: environment: '$(envName).$(resourceName)' (variables are in a stage level variable group)
i get this error: Job Deploy Resource $(resourceName) does not exist in environment $(envName)

@WilliamAntonRohm, i don't really understand your answer, i used the same syntax as the docs and i got an error in the pipeline, isn't that a doc issue?
