Proposal: Work with the folks that are building this: https://github.com/SUSE/azurectl
I'm looking at adopting azurectl because I really don't want to keep having to use PowerShell and Windows to publish Linux images into Azure. azurectl today has the feature set needed to do an image publish. However, they lack other basics like being able to discover all/new regions to replicate too (https://github.com/SUSE/azurectl/issues/159).
It seems there might be an opportunity for collaboration and reduction of duplicated effort. At the very least, can we take their image publishing work and integrate it into azure-cli?

Thank you for pointing this out @colemickens
Uhm... I just realized this is the Python CLI. @JasonRShaver is probably the right person for this job.
Ah, sorry for the noise then David.
Thanks for the heads-up. We will indeed be working with SUSE/azurectl moving forward.
What became of this? Is there image publishing functionality in azure-cli at the moment?
