Awesome: "Awesome" or "awesome" ?

Hello. First, I'm sorry for my poor English.

Thank you for your work, I can use such a good window manager. I am writing a book about Arch Linux. This book mentions awesome wm.

So I want to know:

1. What do you want me to call your software?
2. Do you have any normative suggestions for the spelling of "awesome"?

I saw all lowercase and the first letter capitalized "awesome" on your website, so I am very puzzled.

So since no one said anything in three days and I do not really have an opinion:

• The FAQ for the latest stable release definitely begins with calling it awesome (this comes from 86ca5281f489c5183069722961c88f275e534a8a which just imported it from the old wiki)
• @copycat-killer recently (August 2017) decided that the correct spelling is Awesome in 4fc3108e0f839e1691bed3252022f9f802815a66

So:

What do you want me to call your software?

As long as you do not use "ugly piece of shit", I'm fine. And even if you do, as long as you have convincing reasons, you may do so, but I'd still consider it rude.

I have serious obsessive-compulsive disorder. So I'll use Awesome because it's more like a software name than a word.

I'll use Chinese to write that book, so there is no grammatical rules such as initial capital letters.

In theory, the English language capitalize the first letter when a normal word is used as a proper noun. So does French and a bunch of other languages. Some other languages might not have such rule. So by pure grammatical, it is "by default" Awesome (p. noun) and not awesome (adj.). But I am not sure I care either way.

The question is "should the AwesomeWM/awesonmewm/awesomeWM/Awesome/awesome project standardize it's branding to be consistent". If the answer is "meh, no I don't care either", then I guess we can close this issue?

At present, many open source software have this problem.
The inability of brands to be available everywhere (such as programming language restrictions on keywords) is the tricky challenge.

On your question, I prefer "AwesomeWM" or "awesomewm".

Then I feel like you really should regulate these things, not "We do not mind".
This really put me in trouble when introducing it to novices.

They asked: "awesome / awesomewm / AweosmeWM / aweosmeWM / awesome window manager ... is not the same thing?"

We can also use the good old acronym awm.

"good old acronym" awm seems to have been used in ~3 issues if you search by it in github Issues (as opposed to "awesome" and "awesomewm" which have been used plenty

Also, awm is sometime used for the ancient Afterstep Window Manager.

Now I prefer "awesomewm".

Because all the lowercase, and this is definitely a software name.

Lowercase is a bit of a benefit for those using Vim or Emacs.

I think I will declare "AwesomeWM" the winner because it has a lot of upvotes, makes the most sense and @psychon said so.

The compact name for the Awesome window manager framework is now officially AwesomeWM
